Point's ; flne^ new Ihgii School building, is nearly ready for occupancy and within the next Jew and pupils. The question aa tcvvhe ther ot : not this', buildiug h&» for many °years-seryed-for education of the children of this village, will remain idle or become the scene qf other activities bene- Ikia! to the people of Rouses Potat and Use surrounding country will be determined at a special school election to be held at the Fire Sta- tion tomorrow. It can hardly be termed i% question. As far as we can deterniine, from the outspoker opinions of many of the residents of the village, there is practically no opposition to ihe proportion of lesising the present school for com- mercial purposes at i rental which will be in excess of the cost of upkeep of the property. There Ss no doubt but that Uiw uuii<4mg will deteriorate if allowed to r re- main idle, insurance must be con- finucd and at a cost in excess of the present premium rate. It is a well known fact that the insurance rate on unoccupied buildings is much higher than that or^, occupied structures as the rtsfe from fire is greater on an unoccupied building than on one in continuous use. \ The Board of Trustees, which will have charge of .the rental of the oldP school after tomorrows election, is composed of success- ful men whose interest in the growth anfl development of Rouses Point has nev«r been questioned and\ they can be depended upon to look after the interests of the peo- ple of the village with as tduch care and attention as though they were their, own private affairs. In fact, what disposition is made of the present school is, in a measure, the affair of each member of the trustees of the school as it. is of every taxpayer of the community and any proposal for the rental of the property will be as carefully considered as though it were the property of each individual mem- ber of the board. Rouses Point It a growing community oauwl provi* sion must be made to care for thi» j- growth. Industries and govermnen- j ta> institutions seek location in our j Biidest. Their location here means i even a few months ago.) i Our leaning is to the latter course. At the same time we see no objection v hatev^r to a quick i and frank d^«»se of higher prices if the mat'i.«r must be mentioned ' *\ »* - \ But in ihe case of the maq who j has no* the courage to defend j higher 'iftfict a, what, will he c do if he un<fertak' 4 s to cut quality in or-' der to avoid rt^»ing prices.?
