6 OGDENSBURG JOURNAL, THU., JULY 24, I n t e r n a t i o n a l S e a w a y F e s t i v a l NOW THRU SUNDAY JULY 27 OFFICIAL PROGRAM THURSDAY, July 24 — Block dance at Morissette Park will be highlighted by opening of the Festival by Queen Vickie Sue Layng. The dance will begin at 7 :3 0 p.m. FRIDAY, July 25 — There will be sidewalk sales in the downtown area and shopping center, also a band concert at Morissette Park at 9 p.m. given by the Salvation Army band o f Ottawa. A giant fireworks display will follow at 1 0 :1 5 p.m. SATURDAY, July 2 6 — Sidewalk sales will continue downtown and in shopping center. The Festival parade featuring bands, marching units, floats and other units is at 1 : 3 0 p.m. There will be no parking along the parade route f o better viewng. Przes and trophies to be award ed to winners in many categories. “Battle of Drums”, the annual Festival Drum Pageant will be held at 8 :4 5 p.m. a t Cooper Field near O.F.A. Contestants include: DeLaSalles Oaklands of Toronto trying for their third straight Festival win, Cadets LaSalle of Ottawa, Les Chatelaines of LaVal. Quebec, who are the 1968 National Canadian Girls Champions, The Applenockers of Gen eva, N.Y. and Magnificent Yankees of Utica. The opening of the pageant will be by the O.F.A. band. Prizes from the parade will be awarded during the drum pageant also. The Festival Queen Vickie Sue Lavng was selected from seven other girls on June 30 . She is a recent graduate of O.F.A. and plans to enter Ogdensburg Business School in the fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Layng of the Heuvelton Road and will be one of the ten finalists in the 1970 Miss 1000 Island Pageant in Watertown. In other Festival news, Chairman Dodds stated that all concessions at the Drum Pageant and at Morissette Park during the outdoor band concert and fireworks display are sponsored by the Festival committee.
