At nine, guitar As he got older, he switched to piano. Now, he writes and arranges his own music, and is hoping to launch an international _ singing career. \Andy Warhol said everyone gets 15 minutes of fame,\ . he says. \Hopefully the battery in my watch will die.\ Silvano, his stage name, was offered the chance to record some of his songs, which he compares to Richard Marx style pop, by Italian record producers - Take a Chance is the working title - and is hard at work at Dajhelon Studios in Rochester. Helping him in the studio are local musicians David Cohen, Andy Calabrese, Ralph Ortiz and from Italy, Carlo Ognibene. Making special appearances are Amy Wilcox, a studio singer of local fame, and Marco Amadio, a Gates resident and guitarist. Another Rev. Bovenzi to Return Reverend Angelo D. Bovenzi, C.S.B., former chaplain and professor at St. John Fisher College from 1983-1985, is returning to campus to celebrate his 25th year of priestly ordination and 35th year of religious profession in the Basilian Fathers. Fr. Bovenzi is a native of Rochester who, after attending Aquinas High School, entered the Basilian Community and was professed in 1957. At this time his parents, the late Dominick and Jonnie Bovenzi, moved their home to Gates. After studying theology at the University of St. local man who may be famous around the world soon - Hard Rain vocalist - John Akers - is doing some work with Silvano as well. \I went over to Italy on a personal family business trip, and I had sent some tapes to friends of mine,\ he says. \They knew some people, they heard my music and they became interested.\ At least in Italy, the rest is history. Silvano performed on Italy's version of America's television staple Star Search, and opened concerts for some of Italy's major performing acts. He would perform on stage, by himself, singing to a taped instrumental track. j \In certain areas, I'm pretty well recognized,\ he says. \I'm not a star. Right now, I'm more likely to be recognized there then here.\ The 1986 Cardinal Mooney graduate, the son of Silvano and Gemma Orsi of Bru-Mar Drive, says many of the people he went to high school with probably didn't even know of his interest in music. \I was a very quiet Michael's College, Toronto, and St. Sulpice Seminary, Paris, France, Fr. Bovenzi returned to Rochester in 1967 to be ordained by the then Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. After ordination he was appointed to teach at Catholic Central High School in Detroit, Michigan. In 1983, Fr, Bovenzi was assigned to the Campus Ministry Office at St John Fisher college and taught in the French Department. The Basilian Fathers held a General Chapter in 1985 and Fr. Bovenrt was elected First Counsellor to the Superior General. Thu., 12731 Silvano Hopes for More Than 15 Minutes of Fa person in high school,\ he recalls. \The music thing, - I kept to myself and my close friends. I came - home, and did the practice thing.\ Silvano credits his parents, who are originally - from Italy, for his interest in Italian culture and music. ' \I liked Italian music since I was younger - I'd played in an Italian band,\ he says. \I was raised around Italian music and culture because my parents were from Italy. This is a strange thing that's happened, and I thank God and my family for bringing me up in an Italian environment. That's why this happened.\ The songs are written in Italian and English. \I don't go out to write an Italian song. When I write a piece, sometimes it doesn't call for the Italian language,\ he says. \The language goes around the music, not the music around the language.\ Aithough Silvano is negotiating with record companies in Italy to release the album, he thinks the title song, a ballad, and another song written for his girlfriend, to Fisher Toronto. However, he kept close ties to Fisher by accepting a membership on the college's Board of Trustees. He retained this position until 1989, After a sabbatical year, Fr. Bovenzi has returned to active ministry and is presently Campus Minister at the University of Western Ontario, and Pastor of Holy Spirit University Parish, London, Ontario. I thank God for that chance,\ he says. \So I view myself as an ordinary, run-of-the-mill Gates resident - with a twist.\ Rev. Angelo D.
