to on the He to ncy you Wilcox Rési-gns,as Chili Deputy Supervisor; Chimera Named Interim Replacement 'By Michael Russo _ Gates-Chili News Chili Deputy Supervisor Bemxcc Wilcox - resigned last week, saving Supervisor Jerry Brixner from having to fire her for what he - called. \disruptive behavior.\ Martha Chimera has been named an interim replacement for Wilcox, whom Brixner claxms ls the reason the media is against me,\ Bernice Bray, Wilcox's daughter, has been ._ investigating alleged missing funds in the town's recreation department. When Bray requested Freedom of Information on the matter, Wilcox said Brixner wanted her to \put a muzzle\ on Bray. \(Not only did Wilcox) appear to have a personal crusade directed toward the Recreation Department and its Director, Ronald P. Fodge, but also the entire town hall operation,\ Brixner said. \(And) Bray's request was excessive.\ Wilcox said she resigned because Brixner's views on open government changed drastically. \One of the reasons I always got along with Jerry was his position on open government,\ Wilcox said. \I believe my daughter has the same rights as any other citizen in Chili.\ Critics have said that Brixner might have felt threatened because Wilcox \ran the | town,\ but Brixner said she didn't support him. ‘ \I have some very mixed feelings about it,\ said Lester Freer. \I think the people that have been around him have tried to help and found out about some of the politicking that's been going on.\ \I think it was a sad day for Chili,\ said Historian Jay Widener, \Bea was a very good person, (and) her general knowledge of the the town was probably better than a lot of town officials.\ Since Brixner took over as Supervisor last January, five officials he appointed have either resigned or were fired by Brixner, Wilcox joins former Budget Director Joan Hilger, secretary April Brongo, Labor Negotiatior Bernie Winterman, Deputy Supervisor (and Councilwoman) Tracy Logel. Winterman returned on December 14 at the request of the town board. Bray Questions Money Management of Chili Recreation and Parks Department By Michael Russo Gates-Chili News An investigation by Chili resident Bernice Bray has led to controversy surrounding the town recreation department and the resignation of her mother, Bernice Wilcox, from her position as deputy supervisor. Bray has questioned how recreation department funds are handled, requested freedom of information from the town on the matter and was told in a letter from Supervisor Jerry Brixner that such a request would \require excessive time to dig out and obviously force my department people to neglect day to day operations.\ \He told my mother to put a muzzle on me,\ says Bray, who participated in the recreation department's \River of Lights\ program and claims Recreation Director Ron Fodge \pocketed the money.\ \The Budget Officer (Dianne Moore) says she never received any money from that.\ Bray also questioned where $163 in revenues from the Halloween Hayride went, and why volunteer workers were paid for their services. \Jay Widener collected the money for River of Lights on the bus,\ says Fodge. \Rather than leave it in my hand during the trip, I put it in my pocket. If that's pocketing it, so be it. The last night of the Haunted Hayride, we found ourselves short of personnel. We thought that next year, we would see if we could get some help from local scouting and - school organizations and donate some of the proceeds back to them. That's what\we did.\ Bray has yet to receive a response to her requests for the number of participants for each program and the cost per participant, as well as a list of all recreation programs and activities. She has also requested: the amount of recreation fees collected from newly constructed buildings; the amount of money received and what accounts the money was deposited to; and what the bills were for and the amount of bills for each program, including the Chil-\E\ Festival But Fodge says an auditor has been called in and the information is on the way. \I don't know why they have a personal vendetta against me and the department,\ he says. \There's not a nickel missing from this department. There's nothing to hide here.\ Bray and Wilcox say Brixner's refusal to acknowledge Bray's requests goes against his campaign promise to have an open government. He wrote that he was \disgusted\ that Bray made such requests and that Moore \and myself are on top of this situation and have been for some time.\ \I resent the fact that he has used my relationship to Bernice Wilcox to try to stifle my rights as a citizen of the town of Chili and the United States of America,\ Bray says. \My mother and I were both insulted when Mr. Brixner suggested that my mother 'take me to the wood shed,\ as if 1 was a child.\ Wilcox resigned as deputy supervisor last week because of the incident. Two Hurt, Two Killed in Ogden Car Crash Chlll Town Hall Keys Lost Agam By Michael Russo Gates-Chili News For the third time since : he's been in office, Chili Supervisor Jerry Brixner has had the town hall locks changed. To some, it might not be a big deal. But to. Councilwoman and Chili taxpayer Tracy Logel, enough is enough. Loge! says the latest change brings the total cost to $1,000 for locks ~ Brixner has changed, and she thinks Brixner should keep an eye on his keys. _ \I'm wondering if (former deputy supervisor) Bernice Wilcox has them and he's afraid to ask for them,\ she says. - \It's becoming ridiculous because it's costing us money.\ Brixner says the most recent change (iwo came last February) is justified. \With the flux of changes, we're missing some keys,\ Brixner says. \We have to get back on an even keel.\ Logel says she hopes the changes don't continue. Councilman Steve Hendershott, Brixner says, has also complained about the move. \He'll get his key, Brixner says, \if I have to deliver it to his house.\ SERVICE » Major engine repair & computer analysis + Electrical repairs « Diesel specialists « Brake, shocks & suspension work + Wheel alignment - Fleet service « Fuel injection service reg. $26 WE DO IT ALL r—- —————————— ——-—-—-- | N.Y.S INSPECTION || ($10.00 Value) Includes up to 5 quarts of quality Pennzoil and premium Purolator Filter.
