During my term in office, I have worked with a number of outstanding individuals and groups to accomplish a variety of achievements for the Town of Gates. Some of those accomplishments include: | helping to push forward improvements on the Brooks Avenue Underpass; fighting to have the expressway lighting turned back on; improving public safety; and lobbying for increased senior citizens property tax breaks. I have also been able to solve constituent's complaints, in an effort to make life easier. My colleagues in the Monroe County Legislature honored me this year by appointing me as Chair of the Legislature's Transportation Committee and Vice-Chair of the Public Safety Committee. I am proud of my record and what we have been able to accomplish in such a short period of time. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to. those who have afforded me their undying support, hard work and warmth, to improve the quality of life in the Town of Gates, I also wish to thank you for the privilege of representing this community which has always been, and always will remain so close to my heart. Supreme Court Judgeship Not His \Cup of Tea\ Gates at a Glance by Supervisor Ralph Esposito This is the time of year for all of us to reflect upon our blessings and to share with our family and friends the gifts that go with the season. As I reflected upon my blessings, I realize that I owe all of you an apology. Other than my family, the most important thing in my life is public service. You have given me a truly wonderful gift, by allowing me to serve you; and I do not thank you enough for that opportunity. My father has often said I should have my head examined for giving up a legal practice to work in government. (Believe me, there are some days I actually agree with him'!) Nevertheless, the \gift\ of being able to serve in government is a gift I greatly value. I need to say all this, not only to say \thank you,\ but also to quickly dispel a rumor. I have heard from a few people that I will be stepping down as Supervisor to run for Supreme Court Justice. While I am certain that some people would welcome this news, it is simply not true. Since I first ran for County Legislature in 1971, I have been routinely asked about running for a judgeship, and I have continually said that I am not interested. Although it is fashionable for a public figure to never say never, I will tell you that I will never ever, ever run for any judgeship. The bottom line is that I am proud of my service in government; and with all due respect to my many friends in the judiciary, the bench is not my cup of téa. Thank you again for my \gift and may all of you have a safe, healthy and happy Holiday Season! Marcia Lane Resident Wishes Chili Well Dear Editor: I wish the Chili Town Supervisor, members of the Chili Town Board and all other town officials and employees a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and prosperous \New\ - New Year. Barney Ruflin Marcia Lane Taxpayers are the Ultimate Source of Income From page 2 school districts, tax structures and management. Everyone seems to think that their method is the best and more often than not, probably incompatible with others. There are many problems to be resoived with the help of both educators, taxpayers and parents. Every taxpayer should be involved, not just hand selected \yes\ people who can easily be swayed to conform to educator or union demands. We all need to research and respond to our ngeds based upon our ability to fund these needs without placing undue financial burdens on other sectors of our community. Be informed and knowledgeable! We must all realize that a degree or two alone does not make a teacher, doctor, engineer, dentist, accountant or whatever career chosen. Everyone must effectively apply the knowledge gained to support the needs of others. Common sense with an honest desire to achieve the highest For the Record Greg Hart is chairman of the Gates Town and County Committee, oot chairman of the Gates Recreation Commission as was printed last week. We apologize for the ersor, individual potential possible in any given career field will bring success and quality service to consumers. It is evident that financial problems in the country, state and community are not going to be resolved in the near future. Everyone will have to practice financial restraint including the government to help reduce deficit spending in this country. No matter what fund utilized for whatever purpose, taxpayers are the ultimate source of income at all levels of government, including education, Our President can encourage and inspire change, however, only Congress can make or change state and federal laws.
