Supervisor Ralph Esposito said he was informed about the investigation, but he had not heard anything new about it in the past several weeks. Esposito did say town records were asked for, and the town obliged, but didnot reveal what they are. Relin would not say what the nature of the investigation is or who the investigation is targenng Attorney..Richard Furlong, who is representing Teamsters . :.. Wegmans spokesperson Jo Natale said the grocery store firm is also planning to ask the Chili Town Board to rezone 21 acres, currently under option from Perna Homes Inc., adjacent to 45 acres the firm already owns. If all goes well with approvals, Natale said construction could start soon. \We hope to begin site development in the spring of 1993,\ she said. \We do know that people in the town are anxious to have the store - they call and write us that. We're hopeful this will be a smooth process.\ Wegmans filed an application on December 7 so that the Chili Planning Board could declare itself lead agency for the project. The board did that by a 6-0 vote at its meeting on December 8. A public hearing before the planning board is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, Chairman Donald Faso said. \It's important for me and the town board to take an (Continued on Page 4) Hart Recommended For Town Board Spot The Gates Town and County Commutice has recommended Greg Hart 1s fill a vacancy that wall be crosted on the sown board ater January 1, 1993. A Show of Support Approximately 50 supporters of the union workers stood in a show of support as designated spokesperson Pat Goole, wife of Union Steward Dave Goole, spoke out against Highway Superintendent Al Leone and his sons who work for the department at the Gates Town Board's December 7 meeting. \We are frustrated and angry,\ she said. \Our purpose now, we can publicly state, is to not stop the campaign against the Leones.\ A letter printed in the November 25 Gates-Chili News alleged \abuse punishment and harassment\ at the hands of the Leones. The letter was signed by several wives of union workers. Mrs. Goole said the wives are tired of their husbands coming home at night with headaches and leaving for work in the morning with stomach problems caused by the stress. \We're here to back them up,\ she said in an interview after the meeung. \The men are only as strong as the wives are, and we're ready.\ \It would be eating at me too if I had to put up with the things they have,\ she said. Union Attorney Richard Furlong said the wives have suffered as much as their husbands. \Very deep and very intense emotions are being displayed by the wives of these workers,\ he said. Al Leone Sr. has denied the allegations in the past, and continues to do so. mana m Wie mtree are thin yi cri brie abi kell eate a ub Apelt ee 5 0 00 mmwykflu lorn monton optiam es | - vee Frew: alee Gees che n crates seing ow t te type ag o Birla oe tope n rime arre see tyr dd pere ruk 199m». - - fome engl 5.G Students Excel!......................Pg‘ Bond: Vote Day Moved.................Lg. 4 ‘Toppex’s Inthe News....................Pg 5 Spencerport Football? ..................Pg. 5 Holiday Gift Gmde........... ....Pg 15-22 Dining Guide ......................... . If things are as bad as the letter, things should have been done before,\ he said. \These radical things aren't justified by the gmevances in front of us. The grievances, now, should reflect a problem.\ Leone, in fact, said there have been two grievances in 11 years. The Banner A memorandum, which would have removed four people from the union, three working foremen { Steve and Alfred Leone Jr. are two) and a dispatcher, was tabled by the board again, even though the matter was brought before the board in September. Esposito said the town is researching the potential loss of those employees' rights. But he did say Furlong did not have to \question my integnty.\ \The matter won't be going away,\ he sand Furlong had said he was assured the memorandum would be acted on after the union vote, which was held in late October . \We expect you to honor your word pursuant to the memorandum,\ he said to Esposito. The lack of acton apparently triggered some union members to unfurl a large banner reading \Shh. .Raiph is sleeping.\ Esposito, when asked about the sign immediately after the meeung, shrugged it off. \What sign?\ he said.
