December 28,200 5 by Bob Piatt The Tupper Lake High School boys basketball team continues their mid-season tour against former CVAC rivals when the Lumberjacks host Ausable Valley tomorrow night Tupper played Saranac Lake Monday, Beekmantown yesterday, and will finish the trio of games against Section 7 teams when the Patriots pay a visit to the local gym Thursday. Ausable lost to Saranac Central in their last outing by 19 points, 67-48, but is 3-2 in the CVAC and 4-3 overall. \Ausable might be the top team mis year in Division II in die CVAC,\ noted coach Steve Skiff yesterday. \They are quick and have some good shooters so I know it will be a tough game for us.\ TL40,SL37 Tupper Lake made the most of their one meeting in the 2005-06 season with nearby Saranac Lake by beating them 40-37. The win came Monday when the two high school teams jump-started the Second Annual Holiday Hoopfest at die Lake Placid Olympic Center. Justin Shaheen and Zach Durfee each hit for double figures in the game with 12 and 11 points respectively as the Lumberjacks took a narrow two-point lead after the first quarter. The Red Storm came back to take a 22-21 lead at the half in the low Mating game. On their way to snapping a four game losing streak, Tupper held off Saranac Lake in the last quarter, after outscoring them 12-4 in the third to enter the final stanza ahead 33-26. \Zach tut two threes and garter, wtScflMr* big \ Free Throws Justin Shaheen was named \Player of the Game\ in the win over Saranac Lake game. As part of the two-day Holiday Hoop Tournament, die Tupper Lake players and staff raised $1,000 which will go toward the cancer unit at Plattsburgh's Champlain Valley Physician Center. And, since Tupper bettered Saranac Lake in the fund raising category, coach Steve Skiff will not have to wear a Red Storm jersey when he gets back to teaching at the high school. That honor will go to SL coach Don Carlisto who will be wearing a Lumberjack jersey for a day once school resumes at Saranac Lake to complete a friendly wager between die two coaches. Alex Stuart came up with the second goal of die game on an assist by Scott BdL Justin Woods and Tyrell Martin shared UK goalie duties in that game, switching off with 10 saves apiece on IS shots apiece. Next up is Malone, with the Malonc Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Tupper Lake will open UK tournament with Malonc on Wednesday, and that game will also count as a league match in Northern Athletic Conference action. Malone is a strong team and will undoubtedly give Tapper Lake a run for me money. Thursday Tupper Lake will finish off die Malone Tournament wim a game against Indian River. Indian River is not a conference team for Tupper Lake. The Lumberjacks (currently 1-5) will then face Massena in its next league game oa Friday, January 6, at home, with a 7:30p.m. start unx. From dial game forward Tupper Lake will host eight of its next 11 games at the hometown Tupper Lake Civic Center. One additional game has been scheduled for Tupper Lake when uw Luntberjacks will face Plattsburgh on February 18. \Our numbers are low, and it's hard to get deep into the game when we are running just two lines,\ admitted Coach Jed Duken. He gives die kids a lot of credit though. \The kids don't give up. Even when UK score appears out of hand raey keep scoring goals late.
