Also receiving an award that night was Jul! Dukett, below, Kiwanian of the Year. The award was present to Mrs. Dukett by immediate Past President Dennis Jones. Nicholas Trabakoulos pleads guilty to charges in Fr. Following his August 13 escape, Trabakoulos was apprehended in New London, Conn, on September 13 and was Architect's rendering of Belleville & Associates on Park Street. Village receives grant $$$ for architect's services Irom the New York State Council on the Arts to cover the services of the architectural firm of Crawford & Stearns, which the village hired earlier this year to prepare period correct facade renderings of the commercial buildings in the business district in order to help building owners who were awarded HUD grant funding, better understand the historical significance of their properties. During the village's regular November meeting, Village Clerk Mary Casagrain showed the board members a rendering (shown above) of what Belleville & Associates, one of several buildings in the grant area, would look like if their recommendations were accepted. ; According to Mayor Sandie ;Strader, Mr. Belleville, one of the Park St. business owners !who signed on to take advantage ,'of the available grant money, is •\very pleased\ with the design. ' The mayor explained that it ]would now be up to Mr. ^Belleville to hire contractors of •his choice and have the work I undertaken. i Last fall, the village •received a $400,000 community idevelopment block grant provided through the Governors' Office for ;Small Cities. The grant was ; earmarked for facade restoration, 'housing rehabilitation and the J hiring of an agency to administer ;the program. The village • contracted with ComLinks to ', oversee the project. \ Also awarded grant money, in the amount of $7,800 (maximum) were Dan McClelland at the Tupper Lake Free Press, Sally Dickey, owner . of the State Theater, Camil Maroun, owner of Maroun's Insurance and Don Donah, owner of the Sorting Gap and Woodmen of the World Insurance building. Trabakoulos was transferred to the Malone Correctional Facility where on October 12, he again managed to flee- this time with fellow inmate Finest Gay, who had been charged with a double homicide. The two men were captured later that day. Trabakoulos pled guilty to all charges before Judge Robert Main, Jr. who adjourned sentencing until February. District Attorney Derek C h a m p a g n e re com m e n d e d sentencing ol three to six years in state prison. The maximum allowed is three and-one-haif to seven years. Trabakoulos has agreed to cooperate against Finest Gay who will appear in court at a later date.
