*n*m^*m^**mwm?*im*'^*mmm Civil War history came alive! Pete's dad is planning to become an 1860s casket builder and his wife will reenact the part of his genteel wife of the period. The part of the undertaker and the casket builder was a needed commodity during the Civil War, according to Mr. Gilbert. A total of 623,026 people were killed in that war. To put that number into perspective, Pete related that there were almost as many casualties at Gettysburg in three days as in the 12 years of the Viet Nam War. At the battle of Cold Harbor there were 7,000 soldiers killed in seven minutes when the Union troops assaulted the Confederate Earthen works •there. There were 23,000 ^casualties at An tie tarn. i- The Civil War's historical ''significance to the development of the United States of America is not to be forgotten. From that standpoint, Mr. Gilbert said the weekend was definitely a success. \We did it for the kids,** he said after the weekend. \If we were successful in educating even ;one child to the significance of -the Civil War, then the weekend , was a success.\ ._ LP Quinn and Middle/School students \wore able to study history up close and personal Friday when reenactors took over the 'LP Quinn school I Grounds for a three day •Civil War reenactment.
