Steinfeldt, age 90, of JSteinfeldt Road, Long Lake E assed away early Friday fternoon, August 27, 2004 at Jlis home surrounded by his close friends, following a long Illness. 6 J Born October 29, 1913 in Steinau, Germany, he was the *on of the late Otto and Frieda rWieboldt) Steinfeldt, moving to the United States at age 16. He served in the United States Army from 1943 in the Rainbow Division during World War II and was honorably discharged in April of 1946. His decorations and citations include the American Campaign medal; the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; and the WWII Victory Medal. Following his military duties, he owned and operated Otto's Deli in Brooklyn, a well- known landmark. Later, he became a successful real estate investor both in New York and Wisconsin. In the 1950's, Mr. Steinfeldt moved to the Long Lake area where he enjoyed his retirement. He was a member of the Long Lake American Legion Post No. 540 and also a past member of the Newcomb Lion's .filub. £ He was an avid hunter and ^fisherman, and also enjoyed his •garden. I Above all, he truly Appreciated his friends and the •Adirondack Mountain way of 3ife. iKiwanis Club apologizes ifor postponement of event; will decide an alternative plan The Kiwanis Club of Tupper Lake apologizes for the sudden ^postponement of the Celebration of Youth that was slated for this •jfast Saturday at the Municipal Park. The high predictions of *#iunder and lightening would have put the children at risk during £wiis outside event. Members apologize for any inconvenience this j*jhay have caused. ** The committee will be deciding an alternative plan during its •potluck dinner meeting at the Masons Hall on Park Street tonight **t 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in learning more about Kiwanis is *!velcome to attend. »* Again, the club apologizes for the postponement but, ^according to the event chairperson, Deanna Courtney, \our motto is •^Children- Priority one' and we will not risk the safety of them for ^anything!\ ** Parents and children are asked to watch for the announcement *tn next week's Free Press. Besides his parents previously mentioned, Mr. Steinfeldt was predeceased by his wife, Joan, passing away several years ago, and also an infant son. Survivors include his sister Elfrieda of Germany; a close friend Regina Dunn of Long Lake; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends, Friends called Monday, August 30, at the Long Lake United Methodist Church. Funeral services followed the calling hours at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Gill Ott, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services, with full military honors, immediately followed the funeral services at the Long Lake Cemetery and were conducted by the Long Lake American Legion Post No. 540 members. Following the Interment service, friends and family were invited to attend a celebration of life gathering held at the Adirondack Blarney Stone Restaurant in Long Lake in remembrance of Mr. Steinfeldt's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High \Peaks Hospice, 286 Glen St., Glens Falls, N.Y. 12801 in Mr. Steinfeldt's memory. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
