If Tupper,Lake merchants transact a large volume of. busi- ness their prosperity is communi- cated to every person In the en- tire community. „ The value of our real estate in- creases. Wages are increased. There is more money in circula- tion and it is more readily obtained for the purposes of expansion, t paying for improvements, buy- ing luxuries, etc. In every way we discover bet- ter conditions on all sides when our business men are busy. And there in every reason in the world why we should spend our cash in Tupper Lake instead of sending it to the Big city mall order houses. By keeping it in circula- tion in our home community we profit in many ways. Every dollar sent out of Tup- per Lake detracts Just so much from our own individual prosper- ity, as well as from the prosperity of the Tupper Lake merchants and the community in general. Think of the dire consequences if we should all send to the mail- order houses for our luxuries and our necessities. How long would it be before the Tupper Lake mer- chants would have the \closing out sale\ sign on their doors, to be followed by the \for sale\ signs on the stores themselves. And when the business houses were, all advertised for sale what would be the result, what would be the value of our own houses and •lands? Of course mich a calamity wlH not pcevall m Tupper Lake be- cause we have enough loyal citi- zens who would prevent It. But that does not excuse those of us who are following this practice of sending our m6ney to. the blR cities. Chicago merchants' money does not pave Tupper's streets. Schools, churches. Streets and all city improvements in Tupper \-Lake are not made and never will be made by Chicago merchants. The more money there is in Tup- I per Lake the less the tax rate will be. Money sent to Chicago, New York and other large cities in- creases the wealth there with a corresponding decrease here. Of course this sending away for merchandise is oftimes done unthinkingly. Those who send to the mail order houses do not stop to consider that these same dol- pfars would add to the prosperity of their own community if spent In Tupper Lake. They do not atop to reason that by helping those in their own community they would also be advancing their own Interests. All It needs we are sure, is to have true truth of the matter pre- sented to them and we know they aro loyal enough citizens to do the right thing by their own com- munity—Tupper Lake and its en- terprises. Tupper I-ake needs your help to become a bigger and better city. We need the help of every dollar to make a more ideal com- munity In which to live, and you need the prosperity of Tupper Lake to make your property of greater value and to give you the benefits of a better community In which to make your home \bright- er, more desirable and worth more in dollars and cents. Common sense and good judg- ment tell us to protect our own interests because if we don't, who will ? What can we expect from the mall-order houses after they shall have received our money and the local store keepers have been put out of running? Shall we ex- pect help and assistance from the mail-order monopoly? We all know that the mail-order house floes not pay any of our local taxes, support our churches, or help pay for lighting our streets or for our fire department. We want a good town and we want a live town. How can we best accomplish making Tupper Lake all that and more. We will tell you more about a live town IrKncxt week's Free Press and Herald.
