Mr. Joel Reed, who died Saturday, at the ad- vanced. ago of elghty years, was: one of the picneér bontmien of the Hudson. Ho was born in New Hampshire and removed, when a young man, to Schodack Landing, and became engaged. in'the brick and stone business, and was one of th frst to freight bullding: stone to the Albany market, Ho matried.a Miss Buns, of Schodack, and in 1857 began the manufacture of brick at West Albany for the machine shops of tho New York Central: and Hudson River railroad, then being erected there.. In 1659 ho started kilis at the corner of Lark and Canal streets, whero ho: has, carrfed. on, uninterruptedly, an extensive business until the day of his doath.
