Jorling has announced. \The seedling program which began in 1984 is becoming increas- ingly popular,\ said Jorling. \Par- ticipation by schools last year resulted in 630 schools receiving and planting 31,450 seedlings last spring. \The interest that students and their teachers have shown in our seedling program is another exam- ple of their concern for our natural resources,\ said Jorling. \Next spring, many schools will join in this program in the traditional observance of Arbor Day, which celebrates 100 years of en- vironmental awareness.\ DEC is continuing the free seedl- ing program for schools so that more of them can have this op- portunity to give their students practical experience in improving and protecting their environment. The seedlings distributed to the schools are produced by DEC'S Saratoga Tree Nursery. Fifty seedlings will be given to each qualifying school. Interested schools should contact their local DEC forestry office before March 4 to obtain details about the pro- gram. The supply of seedlings will be limited.
