Une o f the engines was built by tbe ^mos- jeag Co., of Manchester, N . H., and the ither b y Silsby, Mynderse and Co., Seneca Tails, N . Y . B o th played from a =uotion, draw ing w a ter from the river. h e first test w as on the time required to get np steam and sta r t a stream . Tbe Amoskeag machine w as ahead in this, being lady in minutes from the tim e o f ap- lying the m a tch, the Seneca Falla engine inutes. The former played 200 feet from a nozzle IJfnohee in d iameter, through 50 feet o t h ose when her hose burst. The latter played 216 feet w ith the same size >zzle a nd same length hose. The Seneca Falls machine th e n played fifteen minntes steadily, reaching a t the u t m ost 218 feet 6 inches— average 175 to 195 feet—steam pressure varying from 85 to 105 pounds. The Amoskeag engine started to play her fifteen minntes, b a t a t the end of nine her hose again bnrsted. She reached 205 feet a t the farthest and 168 a t the near est p o int—steam pressure 120 pounds w ith out v a rying. After these trials the two were brought to the corner of M arket and Main streets il at tbe City pole. Here the Seneca Falls engine followed the example of the Other by burBling two lengths of hose successively, c h e played about eight or ten feet above the cap, while the Amoskeag ju s t threw over. D rs. Payne and Cooper made a post mortem exam ination and it as their opinion th a t the deceased his death from hard drinking and exposure. General Wallace was followed by Hon. George W. Sterling in a moat e loquent and impressive speech. This, ns well as the others, was interrupted plauee. A proposition w offer a bounty for each recruit in the town of Paw ling, when a few liberal genMoraen present pledged themselves to pay each person on enlisting the sum o f twenty-five dollars as a bounty in addition to the $100 offered by the N ational G o v e rnnont a nd $50 by the state of N ew Y o rk. A meeting was also held a t Beekmanville on Thursday the 24tb, which was addressed by the same gentlemen above n amed, and we understand w as well a ttended.
