PAGES Sherman Masonic Lodge holds community service awards night appointments on boards of directors throughout the county and work with ser- vice organizations such as the Masons and Rotary. SHERMAN The Olive Lodge No. 575 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Sherman held its annual community service award night on Thursday, Oct. 13 under the leadership of Ronald Graham. Master of the Lodge. Chainnan of the event was Douglas Neal who solicited nominations for t-hree Masonic award categories and made the award presentations. The General Douglas A. McArthur Service to Youth Award was given to Terri Kindberg, the Executive Director of the Chautauqua Children's Safety Village in Ashville. She was intw- duced by Lodge Member Dr. John Hamels. \I am personally and Masonically proud to be part of and supportive of an organization which has ded- icated itself to the safety of our greatest commodity, our children,\ Hamels said. Neal echoed these senti- ments as he read a procla- mation explaining the award and thanked Kindberg and her board of directors for all of their hard work. Local Masons recent- ly provided the Masonic Child ID pn;>gram at the Safety Village's Parent Expo and helped to con- struct one of the buildings. The McArthur Award is only given to a non- Masonic individual or orga- nization that provides exceptional service to chil- dren. The Safety Village is a half-scale village where thousands of children from across the region have visit- ed to learn about personal, traffic and fire safety in a hands-on setting. While Hamels was still on the dais he was awarded the Jacob Morton Masonic Award for Community Service. Neal explained that the award was given, \in recognition of outstanding service to the community who exemplifies the ancient Masontc teachings of con- cern for the well-being of mankind and of belied in the worldwide brotherhood ofinan.\ Hamels, an educa- tor, musician and writer. is known for his various Ashville National Guard Soldier Lauritson receives new rank, responsibilities LATHAM, NY -Major General Patrick A. Two members of the Stanley Hose Company of Sherman, Rubert Crane and William Brosius, were indi- vidually presented Grand Lodge Certificates of Appreciation for Excellence in Service to the Community. Neal noted that the two volunteers had accumulated over 97 years of fire fighting and saving lives within Sherman and Chautauqua County. Crane, a paramedic' is currently the rescue squad captain and Brosius is the past chief of the Stanley Hose Company. Members of the audience gave testimony to the two firemen's undying commit- ment to others and how in so many cases they made the difference between life and death for many of the local residents of Sherman. The Queen was senior Jessica Laspada and the King was senior Ryan Elliason. The Princess was junior Julia Rater and the Prince was junior Delgo Gaicin. Class representatives were: freshmen Kayla Sorenson and Jake Card; sophmores Katrina Christmas, Jacob Toy, Ryan Robson and Jacqullne Smith; juniors Julia Rater, Matty Tronther, Bobbl Starsekl, Seth Damc:ot, Travis Henry and Delgo Garcia; and seniors Amy Sands, Jessica Laspada, Ryan Elliason, Nick Alday, Mh:heal Graham, Christina Walzak, Melissa Williams and Kyle Keith. recipients in concluding that the \awards are the highest awards given by the Grand Lodg!! of New York State and are intended for truly outstanding service.\' Following the award cere- mony, a reception was held in the Lodge's social hall where the awardees were presented a special cake in their honor.
