Participants with dementia are needed. for a new local social group respite program MAYVILLE The Alzheimer's Association, Western New York Chapter, will be opening its fourth social group respite program site, but it is in need of panicipants who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or a· related demen- tia to piirtllke in the pro- gram. The respite program will be held the second Saturday of each month from II a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning on Nov. 12. The fee for the program is $10 per progTam session. All participants must be assessed by an Alzheimer's Association staff member before attending a group respite session. Once the assessment is completed and the participant is accepted into the program, the location of the respile program will be disclosed. The associiltion' s social group respite program is conducted in a group setting with several trained respite volunteers along with par- ticipants who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or a related demen- tia. For someone with dementia, respite means taking time to socialize, make new friends and par- ticipate in meaningful activ- ities. SADD members help promote positive decision making with students and the com- munity members, with focuses on bullying, drugs, alcohol and unsafe driving behavior. It is kicking off its first fundraiser of the year with Westfield Wolverine blankets. The blankets are 50\ by 60\ and are made of high-qual- ity sweatshirt fleece. They come, in a vinyl bag to be used as a se.at cushion in rain or shine as well. They feature a \Westfield School Wolverine Pride\ logo with the Westfield paw prints. Westfield Stray Cat Rescue - Tandy Tandy is what is known as a \blue and cream\ cal· ico. She has very subtle, but pretty pe~tterns on Ker fur. Tandy was another \drop off' at a rural location and was extremely thin when she was rescued. In spite of her dire straits when found, she has been friendly, sweet and a trouble free foster kitten. This six month old is ready to begin her life with a loving family. Tandy and the other cats and kittens from Westfield Stray Cat Rescue can be seen in their foster homes by appointment by calling 581· 0463. The cats also pay daily visits to The Thrifty Kitty, the Rescue's second hand store at 59 East Main Street in Westfield during store hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
