Ad- 'Vtrtiltm mmy rely on ready attentions. Drowned. WE learn Chat a boy named SAUXDERS, living in the town of Ellington, was drown- ed in CJOT Creek on Thursday of last week. He w .about seven years of age.— James- jtown Jbur. Killed. 'The Censor says a young man named Dodge was killed near Dunkirk last week, by the explosion of the boiler of a steam engine which he was using for sawing wood for the Railroad. Canal Appointments. WE learn from the Buffalo Express that Mr. E. W. DENI30H, late of the Westfiold Transcript, has been appointed by the C a- nal Board to the office of Inspector of Ca- nal Boats at Buffalo.— Journal. THE Olean Journal has been sold by its publisher, Mr. ALDRICH, to Mr. J. T. HEN- «r, formerly of the Ellicottville Union. 33|BC •» The Fait, We republish below, the resolution of the Executive Committee of the Chautauque County Agricultural Society, adopted at a late meeting. We anticipate a cordi al res- ponse from our brethren the tribes of Reu- ben, Napthali,Ashur,GailandtUo half tribe of Manassch. Resolved, That the friends of agriculture and the mechanic arts, in the couutios ,of Frieand Warren, Pa^ Ashtabula, Ohio, Cattaraugus and Erie, N. Y., have the right to draw premiums on the same conditions as the citizens of Chautauque county, and that we cordially invite our friends from those counties to meet with us at our An- nual Fair to bo held at Wostfield, on the 10th and 11th days of September next. Railroad Matters. A now timt. table for trains over lha Now York and Erie Railroad took effect on Monday last. Five passenger trains per dav will leave for New York during the sum- mer arrangement. Trains commenced running over the Buf- falo and Eric Road on the same day, under a new table. Trains are now run over this road by telegraph, thus aftbrdiuc: addition- al precautions against accidents. Mr. Tin dall the dispatcher, has opened a general office at this place.— Dunkirk Jour. -• WE go to press before hearing from the anti railroad Meeting at Erie yesterday. We look for excited demonstrations in that meeting, and regret that they may work urther evil to all concerned. The public mind is now so sore there, that an extra match will kindle tho community into a flame. Let our friends lm calm and return to their peaceful avocations—Jotting be what is to bo. JCST Gibhs has a garden hoc that every- body ought to have.— W'estficld Rcpubli- ran. Well, why don't \Gibbs\ 7 hand it over then ? What right has he to a \hoe\ that *' everybody ought to have!\— Erie Obser- ver. THESE—we told GIBBS that that hoe would bo wanted. Here's an order from the great Democratic husbandman of Erie •county. SLOA* has a large garden to lend this summer and will want the very best kind of an article. Indeed, we imagine, he may need a Hoe printing press at last, to dress out the vineyard. There's the tradi- tional 1400 majority of pernicious Whigs to wood out—=part of which crop we pre suine has turned into abolition pigeon grass, and Republican sunflowers. Cat-Ym has lieen sowing catnip constitutionalism, while men slept, or while the whole old school garden has been trying the affinities of the land for railroad thistles. The real Demo- cratic clover has had a hard timo of it, and needs tho very best climate and culture now to preserve the plant, among so many rank exotics. And wo rather imagine that even with this hoe of GIBBS', and tho talented tact sad tinkering of the ooseri-ing gardner in its use, with his watering, under-draining, lime, ashes, solvents, reagents, guano, plas- ter and poultice, that Erie county garden \will all grow up to Abolition Kansas tim- othy, this fall One of the Advertisers. The place named Angelica has various attractions of course, among which is a bright looking paper. Tho Reporter shows a good advertising stir. There's a curious B?aa over there, publishing store matters, .whom we sbouJd like to see. He goes through the Alphabet spiritedly and rages under each particular tetter. It's a now idea to us, and we'll warrant ho (Mr. SHER- a AN) is a grand fellow. When we buy in Angelica, it will be atjhis \Empire Store.\ Let us append his explosion on the Inst man jn the alphabet z-2-z whew ! Zounds! The Erglish Alpliabct is too barren of letters to answer my purpose.— Next timo I will try the Chinese! But come, one and all, and examino my Goods and Prices. B. SHERMAN. EMPIRE STORE. Foarth of Julr. We understand arrangements are- about completed for the observance of the coming Fourth of July, in this village, on a grand SCPJO.— Dunkirk Journal. We haven't understood that any arrange- ments are thought of hereabouts for that purpose, as yet Fourth-of-Julys are now mere play days to the mass of the country— a time for boys to explode firecrackers and men to look at paper balloons in tho air or some pyrotechnic display, and for girls to assemble at picnics with their swains and enjoy jollity and fun. Who feels, and gives evidenceof it in our anniversary proceedings, any sincere and thoughtful, thankful appre- ciation of our freedom and privileges as a nation? The rage is to see how we shall get up the most trifling nonsense and pue. rilities, and pass off the day in excitement. An orator aften blows his balloon full of turgid glorification of the immortal year of 76, and the swaggering dram-lover oozes out with freedom hurras, while the juice soaks inwardly. . We wish there might be, once more, a deep utterance of thanksgiving on the Fourth of July, for our liberty and privileges. Can it bo so ? Wo are yet fighting in this country for the identical rights our fa- thers bled for. Some, of our brethren are in jeopardy in this fair country. Will not the feet invest the coming anniversary with a new interest? What shall bo done to properly celebrate the day in Wostfield. HURRA ! for the Right Angular Stone Corner—just transforming into the fine pro- portions of :i large CI 3th and Clothing store. Messrs. OLR friend, tho Colonel has returned from the West in good health, and with a liking for that '-pent up Utica.\ But what is more worthy of remark, he didu' t hear a Kansas sharp shot, in his absence. The re- verbrant clang of war, he thinks, more au- dible here, than out on the Held itself. Per- haps Sharp's rifles were too far South of the Colonel's ear. Wait a few revolutions of tho Little Bear. MARRIED. In Quiney, on Tuesday the 27th inst. t>v Rev. E. Mills, Mr. John L. Gates, to Miss I .aura Turner —both of Harlmrcreek. After doctoring with different physicians, all to no purpose, and after being given up by them as incurable, I was induced by my friends\to give Dr. LjrOns a trial; and by sodoing' I found to my great joy, a grad- al decrease of disease, with an Increase of health and thus continued until I recovered my health, and to-day stand a living witness of the efficacy of his medicine, and his unlimited success and good skill. R Lyons, as I had long been suffering with an Affection of the Lungs, and an elargement of the Heart, and a combination o other diseases. I had for the last twelve years been more or less under the treatment of a phys- cian in this city, until my diseases got the master of them, and 1 had been\given up by them, and left as a patient out of reach of all medicines—4t was thought that nothing but death could relieve me of mv sufferings. My husband proposed a trial of I)r. Lvons' ikill and medicine. I objectr ed—thinking\ it of no use. But\the Doctor was, called upon—he made me a visit and gava me little or no encouragement, but ssid if I wished he would make a trial. 1 accepted his offer, and line.Npeetedly to one and all, I gradually recover- ed my full health and strength, and have enjoy- ed them for the last two years. 1 have thus been blessed in, witnessing his great success in many others aroupd us. 1 subscribe myself, yours truly, MARGARET J. Medical aid was imme- diately procured, but to all human appearance she was rapidly going into a decline. At this crisis, Pr. J. Lyons was recommended by one of his friends. Soon after she began to take his medicine it was evident that she was recovering. Rhodes, Esn., Dear Sir:—As I took yqur medicine to sell on consignment, no cure no, pay, 1 take pleasure in stating its effects as reported to me by three brothers who live in this place, and their testimony is a fair specimen of all I have received: W. S. COXKLIX told me—\ I had token nine bottles of Christie's Ague Balsam, and continual- ly run down while using it until my lungs audilv er were congested to that degree that blood dis- charge ! from mv mouth and bowels, so that all tnought it impossible for me to live through n- notljer chill. The doctors too did all they could for me, but thought 1 must die. Nothing did me any good until I got Hhodes' Fever and Ague Cure, which at once relieved me of the distress and nausea at my stomach and pain in niv'hend ami bowels, and produced a permanent cure In a short time. H. M. COXKLIX says: \I had been taking med- icine of as good a doctor as we have in our coun- ty, anil taken any quantitv of-quinine and specific without any good i-esnlt.from 23th Angnst to 17th Decemeber. But seeing how nicely it operated on my brother, I got a bottle of Rhodes' Fever aud Ague. Cure, which effected a permanent cure by using two thirds of a bottle.\ B, M, Couklin was nut here, but both the other brothess say his case was the same as H. M's. i sold the medicine to both the same day, and the cure was as speedy from the same small quantity and I might so specify. Yours with resm-ct A. HUXTINGTON. The above speaks for itself. Good proof as is, it is of no better tenor than the vast number of like certificates I have already published, an. , the still greater amount that is continually pouring in to me. One thing more. Last year I h^j occasion to caution the Puubllc in these words;— \I notice one firm who have, taken one of my general circulars, substituted the name of their nostrum for my mcdicin„-, and then with brazen impudence end their r-amphlet with the exclama tion, 'I.ct the proprietor of any other medicine- say as much if he jares,\ A-c s Now 1 take pleasure in saying that the Caution refered to th^ game • Dr. Christie's Ague Balsam\ that is mentioned in the above certificate. There are several other industrious people who are applying to their poisonous trash all that I pnhlish about my Fever and Ague Cure, or Anti- dote to Malaria, except the certificates of cures, end the certificate of the celebrated chemest, Dr. James R. Chilton, of N. Y., in fftvor its jierfectly Harmless Character, which Is attached to every bottle. These will always sorve to distinguish my medicine from imitation, JAR A. RHODES, Proprietor.
