Christmas annually casts a mantle of cheer over rich and poor, and in brighten- ing the lives of the latter, few organisa- tion! accomplish as much and In as many places as the Salvation Army. In Malone on Christmas day, MO of the poor.partook of a bountiful holiday dinner served By Captain Bell and bis assistants. Of this number, over 200 were children, and the wan features and ragged clothing of many of them indicated their intimate acquaintance with poverty. As early as seven o'clock the children began to collect for the dinner, which was served at noon. About noon en Sunday last fire do stroyed the dwelling bouse of John A. Lyons, a prosperous farmer, about a mile and a half west of Constable village. The origin of the fire is unknown. Tbe bouse was burned to tbe ground, but the barns and outbuildings nearby were saved. Nearly all the household goods on tbe first floor were also saved.
