Well, we are having the most beautiful weather here that any one would care to see, and when we get the Express and Rochester Her ald and Prattsburgh Advertiser and read what the people from every p art of the country is experiencing, we just pat ourselves on the back and say “just our good luck,” but we have not been as fortunate as in other years. We have spent five winters here and this is the first year th at we have been wiped by old Jack Frost. To think the old boy went down to 32 and this is what it did for me. My second crop of garden fruit, such as corn, beans, potatoes, and the small er stuff was ju st getting ready to bud, an acre of corn that would have gone into the market for roasting ears at 60 cents a dozen, but we have been eating green corn for two weeks and had a fine mess for our dinner. My potatoes it did not h u rt very much, and I had % acre of cantelopes and watermelons that was not hurt. We had a fine crop of Grangers and grape fruit that we have just sold and they packed them yesterday. We had about 350 boxes, that is the same as 700 bushels. Our bearing grove . is small, our young grove has 335 trees. They are three years old this March. They had a few on this year and now they are full of blooms, for the next crop. I have the most of my work to do as there is no one you can get to do a day’s work.Everybody is working on the road that Hillsborough county bonded for three millions of dollars for good roads last fall and they all ! w ant some of the money. We were glad to hear that Phil Curtiss’ people w ere all well and we hope that this finds you all w ell and happy, and that you are not in that 1500 that the Rochester H erald spoke of as being sick in bed. We sure was sorry to hear of Mr. F. J. Gillette be ing in the hospital in such bad shape. I wish you were where Mrs. Chap man could pick you a fine bouquet this p. m. The frost got some of her flowers but if you were here she could fix you out with something fine. I went out and picked a little grape fruit yesterday; put it on the scales and it weighed just three pounds. I am sitting on the porch, w riting this, and the thermometer registers 80 in the shade. We are both well and happy and do not have to stand over the stove and shiver for the want of coal. Well, I think you will be glad to quit by this time, so I will ring off, and join with Mrs. Chapman in kind regards to you and yours. Yours truly, F. C. CHAPMAN. — - - I ---------- COMMUNICATION. We took a journey a few weeks ago to Crooked Lake, sixty-two miles south of this place, and there we learned ments Mr Tower stated in his report have been made by or through the power of the Chamber of Commerce. But the president went further in his report stating what the* organization had done about the raising of the Lib erty street bridge, the putting of two million fingerlings in Lake Keuka and the Yates County Automobile As sociation.
