Y., August 19, 1971 Page Five Kids Will Walk be eligible for bus transporta tion to the middle school, along with children from Heck rd. and Hirsch dr. Only the far end of the at tendance area would be eligible for transportation to the James A. Farley Middle School. Wil low Grove rd. and the north en trance to the Parkway, the far end of town beginning at Hast ings lane and the far end of Park rd. and the river side of the Penny Bridge mark some of the boundaries of the trans portation limit for this school. Long Walk to High School Limits for North Rockland High School are even more im pressive. On the east, the line is near the railroad bridge on Main st. in Stony Point. All of Walnut St. and above 95 Jay st. is eligible, as is everything north of the Pancake House on Route 9W. In Haverstraw part of West- side ave. is eligible and most of the village east and south of Gurnee ave. Practically all of Route 202 is ineligible for transportation until the line reaches Phyllis dr. and Carrol ct. The entrance to Saybrook Homes is not eligible but homes beyond and still in the district will be eligible. A lot of shoe leather will be used trotting to and from the new Thiells Elementary School. On one end of the area all of Hidden Hills is ineligible for the bus. and out on Route 202. all of Churchill Park will have to walk along the highway. The eligible areas begin at Tam arac Knolls and the Waldron Apartments on Stony Point rd. Break in Haverstraw A freak of the transportation puzzle is found in Haverstraw Village. All the south end of the village, including the Maple Crest Apartments, attending the \Ith and 5th grades will be eligi ble lor bus transportation to the new West Haverstraw School. All children living west or north of the intersection of South and West sts. in the village will be expected to walk. There is a further footnote. What few buses running under an austerity budget wouldn't be able to get near the schools be cause of the crush of cars driven by parents bringing their chil dren to school. Former Resident Died on Sunday Philip W. Gohring of Phillips- burg. N. J.. died on Sunday in the Veterans Hospitai at West Haven. Conn. Mr. Gohring was born in Haerstraw 56 years ago, the son of the late Philip Goh ring and Mrs. Mary Stecz Goh ring. In recent years he had been employed as an automo bile mechanic by Lincoln Motors in Stamford. Conn. Survivors include his widow. Margaret, one brother. Vincent of New York City, and four sisters. Miss Kathryn Gohring, Mrs. Veronica Riccaldi and Mrs. Helen Finnerty of Haver straw and Mrs. Mary Payne of California, and several nieces and nephews. .A mass of the resurrection was celebrated this morning in St. Mary's church and burial was in St. Peter's cemetery. Mr. Gohring was in repose at thhe Higgins Funeral Home. Edward J. Hughes, Noted Publisher Edward J. Hughes. 70, editor ial director of the Westchester- Rockland Newspapers, died Monday at White Plans. His 54-year career in daily journal ism brought him the praise of fellow newspaper people every where. Mr. Hughes was also a prom inent community leader in West chester. a leader in civic and charitable movements for the entire county. He had served as officer, director and trustee of numerous educational and medical groups. The Journal-News is a mem ber of the Westchester-RoCk- land group. MRS. CORRADO'S MOTHER DIED Mrs. Lena Saltalamacchia, mother of Mrs. Joseph Corrado of 30 High Ridge rd.. Stony Point, died Sunday at Ramapo General Hospital. She was 87. She also leaves another daugh ter. Mrs. Ralph Giraldi of Brooklyn, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral took place Wednes day in Brooklyn. PRIMPTERS NEAR BOSTON Dr. and Mrs. Michael H. Frimpter and family have moved from Superior, Wis., to 42 Glenridge dr., Bedford, Mass. 01730 Dr. Frimpter. a former Haverstraw resident, was a pro fessor at the University of Wis consin in Superior. He has re turned to the U. S. Geological Service, which he formerly served in the Albany area. Stony Point Friday the 13th; fins 2 Trophies .4t Ossining JUNIOR METS OF H.E.P.: Last year's champions of the Independent League includes team members, some of whom have played together since the organization in June, 1970. Last year the team played Pearl River Small Giants. West Hav- erstraw's Granata's All Stars, and the Goya All Stars at Cen tral Park in New York City. The season record was 14 wins and one loss. This season, the Junior Mets have played all the same teams and Sunday went to play at Central Park against the Rovira All Stars. The team is sponsor ed by the Haverstraw Ecumen ical Project. H.E.P. is doing a great job in helping many people in our community, aiding people to get jobs and with information on a variety of subjects, from where to find an apartment to how to help children in school. A daughter, Mrs. Charles F. Furst. lives in Stony Point. He also leaves his widow, two other daughters, and a son, Robert, who operates the farm. EDMUND G. O'DONOHUE, 48, of 58 Schriever lane. New City, died Saturday after a heart attack suffered while playing tennis. He was presi dent of Terminal Operating Co., operators of the Bear Mountain Inn when the late John Martin was manager. He leaves his widow, four sons and a daugh ter. PIERCE JOHN COULTER, 47, of Congers, died Friday while playing golf at Rockland Lake. New City Giants Win LL Tourney A night baseball game Sat urday placed the New City Giants at the top of the heap in a tournament of Little League championship teams from the various county leagues. The tourney at the Jerry Mastro- marino Little League Stadium was sponsored by the Journal- News and raised $788 for Camp Jawonio, New City. The New City Giants scored their final victory over the Haverstraw LL Giants. Neither team scored until the sixth in ning when each got a run. New City scored the winning marker in the seventh to win 2-1. Crowds donated to the kitty for Jawonio. SHERI ANN CELEBRATED HER 7lh BIRTHDAY Sheri Ann Casscies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cass cies of Prospect st.. Stony Point, celebrated her seventh birthday on Saturday. West Haverstiaw on .4ug s Senior League Needs a Few The Rockland County Senior Bowling League already has enough bowlers to form an 8- team league of three members each. At least six more men are needed to make up a 10-team league. League membership is open to any men 55 or older. One member is 81 years of age and several in their 70's. Joseph Revere sr of 32 Gurnee ave. urges all interested to come out and bowl for pleasure. The next league meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Hi Tor Lanes. FIREMEN'S BAZAAR CONTINUES Cosgriff Hose Co. 4 is holding a bazaar through Sunday at the Municipal Building lot on Maple ave. Wayne Hose Co. 1 of Stony Point, and their Ladles Auxil lary both returned home with trophies won last Tuesday eve ning at the firemanic inspection parade in Ossining. The 18 fire men copped first place in the non-regulation uniform cate gory, while the auxiliary's eight lady marchers were rated sec ond best appearing. Fire chief Anthony Manglass led the men, while auxiliary president Mrs. Kathleen Lefever led the ladies. The Stony Point ers were the only Rockland County unit in the three-division parade. An added joy of win ning was that they marched without a band, so ex-chief James Woodward had to act as \Sgt.-Major \ counting cadence so all kept in step along the almost three-mile route. West Haverstraw Day Camp Ends The village of West Haver straw 6-week Day Camp pro gram ended op Friday, Aug. 13. The annual picnic and games concluded the summer's activi ties. During the season the camp ers visited Yankee Stadium, Museum Village, the Bronx Zoo and Playland, The camp also played different teams in West chester three times during the 6-week program. Arts and Crafts and instruc tional swimming were a great success under the supervision of Sandra Petite and Lou Dawes, respectively. The pro gram, directed by Joseph Cas- arella, was under the supervi sion ot Village Trustee George Wargs.
