THE ROCKLAND COCNTT TIMES, HAVERSIRAW, N. T.. PAGE THREE St. Mary Junior Choir Awarded Festival Cup The Junior choir of St. Mary ’ s church participated in the seven teenth annual Catholic School Music Festival held at Town Hall, New' York City last Thursday. Thirteen choir and glee club groups competed in the final contest and St. Mary ’ s was given a rating of 94-2'3 per cent, the third highest grade given by the judges. The choir was entered in the Young People ’ s Community Choir division and because of its honors was awarded the gold cup offered within that division. “ Avc Maria, ” Gregorian — Mode I, “ Tota pulchra es, O Maria, ” by Agatha Pfeiffer, were sung by the choir under the direction of G. Marston Haddock. “ That's all the cone your nickel will buy today, son!” PHONE SERVICE BIG BARGAIN. Today ’ s cost-of- living figure shows a jump of 89% since 1939. Yet telephone service for the aver age home has risen only 15 % in this same period. It ’ s one of today ’ s best buys. Even though your money looks the same, it buys only about half as much as it did in 1939. That ’ s because most things you buy have doubled in cost. Some have even tripled. But not your telephone! Today the price of tele phone service for the average home is up only 15% since 1939, compared with an increase of 89% in the cost of living. Yet for this slight increase, telephone ser vice is a bigger buy than ever. Millions of phones have been added. Customers in the average community can call twice as many people without paying a toll charge. Operator toll dialing means faster service on thousands of long distance calls. And the company is still hard at work expanding and improving service. When value goes up but the price stays low, it ’ s a good measure of a bargain. That ’ s why your telephone is one of the biggest bar gains in your family budget. NEW YORK TELEPHONE COMPANY MISS GLORIA REILLY A BRIDE HERE MR. AND MRS.
