WHILE priuciple vvas made the stand ard of republican guidance, and the concen tration of pubjic ppiciion was necessary to the effectual resistance of a powerful oppo- sitiou to the fundatnsntal principles of a re publican government, the system of caucus -nominatiSa was kept pure, and its happy iq fluences were every where felt and acknow ledged. But the nianifest degeaeracy of its purity is uow as evident in its having be- epine the machine, of faction, in which the intrigue and luanagemeat o f the aspiting demagogue are consumroated, whereby the most worthy are excluded-from the bestow-* •meots of public honours as its operations are unnecessary by the universal prevalence of republican sentiments. The most strenu ous supporters of the caucus system are now known throughout the state as tbq advocates of a corrupt'aristocracy at Albany, through whom the expressed will of the ’peop,te has been defeated, and their sovereignty tram pled underfoot. Believing that the people will soon obtain a clearer insight into the re lations o f political cause and effect, and that' the time is at band when insensibility to the honour of the slate, when unnatural combi nations against her-public benefactors will be branded with contempt by an indignant and betrayed people. No true patriot can .■deprecate the dissotutioii of a system of .uumination pregnant with so many evils,* when the necessary causes of its ipstitution bave ceased to exist; and its copfiouaoce ljot being necessary for the n^ntenaoce of republican government, nor MKhe interest and sovereignty of the people.^W ith these views, ^nd at the pressing solicitatioa of my friends, I announce myself a Cauditlate for Gongress, and humbly solicit your support at the approaching election.
