THE POLTARICIANS OF LONG AGO. Xntoreosting - Roeminlkconces . of Now York Politictaas-Curiosi. Hos of Loegislative Mlistory, &c. Wa cnn scarcely bo mistaken in attributing the following Interesting chapter of personal and political remminiscencos to the pen of Thuar=, low Weed. It appears in tho N. Y. Times, In. showing, as we did, ono day last week, that Bx Gov. Throop of this state, as well as Chief-Juastice Robinson of Kentucky, were surviving members of the congress of 1815, wa have called out the facts that Hon, M. Thatcher, of Maine, now nincty-five years old, was a mumber of congress in 1802, sixty- nine years ago t These Instacces of fongevity of public men are quile inter@sting, .. We re- member to have seen, two or three years ago, anditent in which it was stated that Joshua Dewey, a member of our state legislature from Otsego county, in 1707, was theo nresgident of Brooklyn, and in tho enfoyment of good health, Not being otherwns informed, . we infor that he is atill living. In looking through legislative journals we fail to recognize an- gthor gurvivor for twenty years, and until the of Queens thirteen years. The counties of Ducaess, Columbia, Westchester, Albany, seven representatives of the name of Living- ston. Archibald Mcintyre represented. the county of Montgomery eleven years ; Eben- ezor Purdy represented the county of West- chester eight years ; Erastus Root represent ad the county of Delaware eleven years ;: C C. Schoonmaker represented the county of Ulster: thirteen years, Alexander Sheldon | represented Montgomery county eleven years, five of which he was speaker of the house : Thomas Thomas represented Westchester county thirteen years ; Elisha represented Columbia county eight years. Between the years 1801 and 1821 there were 104 representatives in the legislature from the universal Smith family. moszim Recommended and Endorsed by Over Seven Hundred Doctors' sesglon of 1818, when our respected fellow- citizen, Michasl was a member of tho nssembly, David G. Judson, of S1. Law- tonco, was a member of that legislature, and ig still living, - Wo believe that Alexander Ham{lton, a mamber of the assembly from this city in 1819, is atill living, Mz, Ulshoeffer was again a member in 18190, Elial P. Foote, | # momber of the legislature of 1820, from | Chautauga, is, wo believe, now i resident of New Haven, Coun. |- - . i The legislature of 1822 was the last elected . under the first state constitution, Of the delegntes to tho state convention of 1821, by which thoe second constitution was framed, tho venerable Sumusl Nelson, jadge of the supremes court of the United States, is, we believe, tho only survivor, Judge Nelson was a delegate from tho county of Courtland, 'That convention mat just fifty years ago. Nearly all of the delegates were mon of large experience in public affairs, and, consequently, were more advanced in years than members of the legislature, The county of Albany, for examplo, was represented. by four of the most | distinguished men in the Stute, viz: James Keat, Ambrose Spencer, Stephen Van Rens- and Abraham Van Vechten, all of whom had passed their mfty-fifth birth days, Rufus King, a delegate from Queons county, himself distinguished in the aunals of our country, had {our almost equally distinguish ed sons, (John A., Charles, James @. and Edward,) none of whom survive. Of the members of the legisinture of 1828, tho venerable Agarinh C. Flagg is, as far as we are informed, the only survivor. Mr. Flagg has rostded many years in London- terruc, Twenty-third street, where, although #5 blind as Belligarius, with otherwise unim- palred raculttes, tenderly cared for, be glides smoothly and cheerfully toward \that bourne\ which almost all of bis colleagues have reached. | Mr, Flagg will leave an unblemish- ed record.- He held high and responsible financial positions, always discharging his duties with proverbial ability and Integrity. In the memorable legislature of 1824- memorable for ites refusal to paks the law | giving the choice of presidential electora to the people, und for its removal of. DeWitt Clinton from the office of canal commissioner | «~--Alrvivors visibly increase. But even now tho number is \fow and far between.\ John ©. Hubbard, of Chenango, whose son is now a member of the senate ; Azarinh C. Flagg, of Clinton ; Oran Follett, now a resident of San- dusky, Ohio, and Samuel L, Edwards, of On- Gnduga, comprige the list. Among the members of the legislature,| some forty years ago, we recognize several whose sons have alnce become prominent, and who are themvélves fpprosching \ the sear DR LAWRENCES COMPOUND FLUID EXTRACT OF K O § K O O1 Tim C-.
