Those in favor say that more access i$ need ed for Otsego Lake, particularly for sport fish- eimen, so that the fish population can be con trolled and increased. Monday, the village board accepted the Planning Committee’s recommendlation that would constitute phase one of a project aimed at improving the existing village boat launch. The village voted to take down existing signs prohibiting boat trailers from parking in the area and replace them with signs allowi- ing the situation.” Monday’s meeting will be held with Seward, the PEC representative, village Administrator Richard Linn, trustee and mem ber o f the Watershed Advisory Council and Watershed Supervisory Committee Gary Kuch, Michael Moffat of Sam Smith’s Boatyard and Trustee Giles Russell. Seward, according to his administrative assistant, Duncan Davie, is on record as being in favor of increased access to Otsego Lake, especially for sport fishermen. “He wants to discuss the issues of a boat launch,’’ said Davie, speaking for SewarcTon Seward in on wbat happened out our mating Monday, and to tell him what other plaits we may have in the future. The total money c o l^ ted and pledged to the Unitod Way was slightly shove $3M).O0O. acrauding to Vince Foti. campaipi chairman this year. Involved in the press conference were Foti, Executive Director Kathleen Lindterg. and president of the board o f directors. Robert 0. Harder. Also on hand was Nancy Miller, who handled publicity for the campaign. 'The cnmpnign was broken down into a number o f divisions,” said Lindbetg. “One third o f the money came from employees, from payroll (kdoctions and special events.” Harder noted that almut a sixth o f tbe total came from special events, and Ltndbeig noted thm 72 compa nies were involved in the payroll deduction plan. White the two largest contiibutois were the State University (College at Qneonta and Wilber National Bank, Foti remarked that it is the small conuibutions that add up. “Ttere are a lot o f little guys that are giving s m ^ donations,\ Foti said “There’s a lot of that, pledging $1 or $3 w ^ It’s all tire hole people. All that money adds up. There were many, many people throwing it} what drey can to r ^ b $300,(XK). There are no Michael Jordans or Badira Streisands out there. We had to diip away&sas goal.” Harder said that there were more than 4 ^ volunteers working on the campaign fids year. “We were a little concerned about reaching our goal,” said Haider, noting that the campaign lagged behind for most of the year. “Kate put together a strategy where we went back to the people dim gave. We made phone <^ls and asked them, and that is what put us above and beyond our goal.” The goal this year of $290,(KH) was the same as last year, when die Unitmt Way fell short o f inching i t The money this year translates into a 6 {Kircent increase in doimtions. “1 don’t know if we’ll increase (the goal),” said Foti. T would like to see it keep going. I would like to see it go forward.” Said Foti. “The thing about giv ing to the United Way is that it’s a simple way o f giving..” Fifteen agencies were helped.
