For approximately 200 local boys and girb aged 6-12 involved in the Cooperstown Youth Baseball pro gram, memtmts of a long winter have been r^laced with die sounds of bat hitting ball and fists pound ing leatha pockets of fielding gloves. This year, the majors (ages 10-12) have four trams, the minws (ages 8-10) have six tean^. and t- ball (ages 6-8) has seven teams. The youri) ba^ball season will last the entire summa. Hie regular season schedule runs till die end of June and the all-star teams play for the remainder of the summer. Every summer, teams from around the country cry to schedule games wtdi one or more of the local all-star teams. Last year a squad from Ireland played in Cooperstown, while thfa year there has been inthresi from teams in Miaroi and Toronto. The season kicks off at 9:30 am. Saturday with the Cooperstown Youth Baseball League’s annual “Li^ts on Parade.” The parade has players from all 17 local youth base ball tean^ march from the National Bas^mU Hall of Fame to the Cooperstown Elementary School. After the parade, the players from the majors and minos go out by teams and canvas the area houses to house f a donations to the program. According to Terry Bhss. presi dent of the Coo{»rstown Youth Baseball program and a member of the C^perstown Boosters, dona- ticms go towards such things as bats, balls, insurance and umpire.s While the older kids are coUeci ing donations, there will be T ball games going on at the Little League Field located on Linden Avenue. The Cooperstown Boosters, a group involved with improvemcnL', to i J k Ltttle League Field, will be spon soring a dance at the Pettier Mill from 8-11 pjn. Friday.
