vf;'' ■ I -\li) I r. Roxbury Has 28 M en in M ilitary Roxbury, Jan. 4.—The end of the year 1972 shows at least 28 Roxbury men are in the U. S. service. Seven of these are abroad, the rest in this country. Six are in the Navy, the rest in the Army or Air Force. Seven who were in service last year have been discharged. There are at least four new ones in since last year. Wayne Baer, son of Mrs. Francis Haynes, is still at George Air Force Base in Cali fornia. He spent Christmas with his sister, Mrs. Michael Schneider, in Seattle, and his grandmother, Mrs. V. Howarth of Roxbury, was there too. Daniel J. Ballard, one of the newer ones, is now at Fort Hodd, Texas. He and bis wife and son were home for Christ mas. Staff Sgt. Robert C. Cart wright is still at Great Falls, Mont. . Ldeut. Col. Philip P. Caswell was transferred from White Sands, N. M., to the Panama Cemal 2k>ne during the year, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Caswell, spent Christ mas with him. He is one of the two highest - ranking service men. Harold Davis is a Navy man. After a Christmas leave of 30 days with his mother, Mrs. Floyd Banks, he will be trans ferred to New London, Conn. Sp6 Stanley Decker is a career soldier. When last heard from he was at Redstone Ar senal, Ala. Douglas Finch, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Finch, is one of the newer men in service. He is located at Griffis Air Force Base at Rome and was home for Christmas. Erich Finch, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Finch, is stationed at McCby Air Force Base in Orlando, Fla. He was home for Thanksgiving. Martin Finch, brother of Eric, is at Kirtland Air Force Base at Albuquerque, N. M. These are the only pair of brothers in service. HUlis Faulkner of the Navy was married during the year, and is stationed at New Lon don, Conn. He and his wife live at nearby Groton. Linden Gregory, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Linden Gregory, is new in West Berlin, Germany. S/Sgt. Keith N. Meade is sta tioned at Walter Reed hospital in Washington, D. C., and he and his family live, at Upper Marlboro, Md. , Joseph lacovelli, also mar- ‘ ried during the year, left De6. 18 for Stuttgart, Germany. One of the newer men, he entered the service in March. Mark Alan Jones, son of Rev. and Mrs. A. Elmer Jones, is the youngest man in service so far. He joined in October and is at Biloxi, Miss. He was home for Christmas. George Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Martin, joined in September and was expected home during Christmas week. He has been at Lackland Air Force base near San Antonio, Texas. Joseph Osborne is now lo cated in Panama. Glenn Pecor, perhaps the old est career soldier, is still at Vacaville, Calif. Lieut. Col. David T. Pitkethly is a doctor at the Army hospital at Fort Lewis, Wash. Gordon Purchell, a Navy careerman, has been located at Norfolk, Va., on the carrier John F. Kennedy. Charles Rose, who returned home during the year with his Japanese bride, is now located at Beaufort, S. C. Charles D. Rettmeier, a career serviceman, was still at Hartsdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. He is the grandson of Mrs. Elizabeth Reed. Robert Schuman, the oldest Navy man, is still at Kefiavik, Iceland, where he wall probably be vmtil 1975. Sgt. George Slauson, only son of Marion Slauson, is at the Kunsan Air Base in Korea after having been in Vietnam and Thailand previously. He expects to be home in May. S/Sgt. David Stewart is lo cated at iVenna, Va. RM2 Richard Simon, son of Mrs. James Minnerly of Rox bury, another Navy man, is now at Norfolk, Va. Virgil Taylor Jr. of the Navy is located on the USS Manley in Greece. David A. Underwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Under wood, is located at Plattsburgh. Michael Van Buren is still at PYankfort, Germany, and his family is with him. He will be home and out of the service after seven years next July. Those out of the service since last year include Robert Shul- tis, who completed 20 years of service and is reported to have sailed for Germany to make it his home; Steven Cartwright, home after four years; James DiGiaccomo, home Friday after four years in the Navy; Joseph Flaherty, also out of the Navy after four years; Jerome Mos'- cato, who is working locally, and Ralph Needham, who is working at MaiBaretville.
