Opera House witnessed the, anitial play given by the Hobart College Dramatic Club on Mon- day evening. AJjmost §very seat in the house was filled, °Thd hill presented consisted of two plays, \Pyg^iafion and Galatea\ a classical comedy in \three acts written by W. S. Gfilbeirt/and *-*A Serio-cs Situation\ _a short afterpiece, a farcejin one act \toy W. K.-Post, of the Hasty Pudding club at Harvard college'. The plays, which were given raider the direction of Mr. Jeffrey Williams, were for the benefit of the Athletic Associa- tion. Of the 1 principals in the first play especial praise must be given to Mr;* George Mead whotook-ffifeptot of Gala- tea, and also to Mr. Harry Loekwood as Chrysos. The other members of the cast with the exception of Mr. John Sandford as Mimos, who made the most of his small part,, although showing the effects of careful study, were evidently influenced by the unaccustomed glare of the footlights and the large audienee facing them. One of : the pMasant fejatures of the evening was the presence of School ;Commissioner Ste- phens, of Clifton Springs, who gave everyone a cordial greeting. Prof. t. H. Stout was also present. Dousek's or- chestra was in attendance and added much to the pleasureof the evening. To Super intendent Truesdale is due in large part the credit for the cordial relations which exist between the faculty and the pa- trons of the public schools of this city.
