Vlymen will lecture at Berkeley Institute on Monday afternoon, and at Mc- Caddln Hall on Wednesday, on “Greek E d u cation; Ionian, Spartan. Athenian.” This will be the fourth of the regular course given under the auspices of the Catholic Women's Association. In his treatm e n t of “ E d u c a t i o n in India” Dr. Vlymen was especially rich in in t e r e s t ing detail. The lecturer told the story of the R o s e t t a Stone, and showed how the deciphering ot the hieroglyphic inscription by the French scholar Champolllon opened up the history of Egypt, Dr. Vlymen point ed out th a t the Nile Influenced the political, Intellectual and social life of the people. He told t h e story of t h e origin of t h e alpha bet and ot script. Other Interesting details of the lecture were the religious beliefs ot the people nnd ot the priests; the po.sition of woman in Egypt, the teachers of Egypt, the subjects of study and the high value placed on education. The rest of the lecture was devoted to a consideration of education among the H e brews. Dr. Vlymen showed how the n a tional ideal, that man was created for the service of God, pervaded the family lifi', shaped the courses of study, guided the teachers and dominated the national insti tutions. He considered In detail the Jewish method of teaching. The class appreciated a seasonable allu sion to the Egyptian strikes. HOELSCHER—HOBBY. One of t h e prettiest weddings witnessed In the E a s t e r n Ul.strict of Brooklyn for some tim e p.ast was th a t of Miss Emma Hobby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thoma.s B. Hobby, to F r e d e r i c k H. Hoelscher, which was sol emnized Wednesday evening in the .Mnslie Street Presbyterian Church, the Rev. R. S. Dawson, pastor, ofllclatlng. The pulpit was very tasterully decorated with palms, ferns and chrysanthemums, and the church was taxed to its full capacity by the many friends of the bride and groom. The bride, who whs given away by her father, wore u very handsome white crepe de chine gown and a tulle veil, fastened with white ro s e buds. She carried a l a r g e bouquet of Bridal roses. The maid of honor. Miss Anna Hobby, sister of t h e bride, was attired In pale blue, satin-striped crepe de chine. She wore a large black picture hat and carried a bou quet of white chrysanthemums. Miss Emm a Hoelscher, sister of the groom, and Miss Jennie V. Eynch acted as bridesmaids. They wore white lace robes over white taffeta Bilk, black picture hats and carried bou quets of white chrysantberaums. Mr. Hoelscher's best man was William B. W a r d and his ushers were Frederick Xuhn, Winfred Gllles, Jam e s Meakln and Edward Vogt. A r e c e p t i o n followed t h e ceremony, at the home of t h e bride’s parents. After the wed- wlng supper the young couple loft on their honeymoon. They will visit Niagara and points ot Interest in Canada.
