W O R S E T H A N A L A S K A N COLD Axe th e F e v e r s of the G o ld F ie l d s ol South A m e rica. Denver, Col., September 3— George W . Adam s of Cripple Creek arrived in this city to-day from the bold fields of South America. Fourteen m onths ago Adams left this city to try his fortun.es in South American mines. H e went to the gold fields, 300 m iles from Georgetown, in company with eight Am eri cans, rem a ining there eleven m onths. Of the entire party of nine he alone escaped death from the fatal fever. One by one he saw his companions die of the terrible disease; saw a hole scboi>ed in the ground and their bodies, tw isted from pain, covered with earth; was attacked tw ice him self with the malady and all but died and finally, after seeing the last ■ o f the eight die in agony, becam e terror stricken and fled from the country, from which, he says, not one out of seventy-five w h ite men ever return alive. Stewart has decided the anti-gam bling law unconstitutional under the decis ion of the Supreme Court in the Fee law case, which in effect nullifies all im portant laws of th e state. Encouraged by this decision the district courts of the state w ill be flooded w ith attacks on various law s which are claim ed to come under the ban of the Su preme Court. If the appropriation bill should be attacked, as seem s likelj', Gover nor Steuenberg may be forced to reconvene th e Legislature. Should the Governor decide to call an extra session of the L e g islature he w ill be in a quandary to know which to con vene, as it is presumed ail but the first ses sion under statehood was illegal, the legisla tiv e apportionments being open to attack tinder the Supreme Court decision.
