The state Department of Environ- mental Conservation revealed the 0.3 - mile tail in the Kings Park Unique Area on Friday. Its name, the Clarence Hylan Beavers Memo- rial Trail, is an honor to the late Sgt. Clarence H. Beavers. Beavers, who died in December at age 96, was the last surviving member of the first all African-American para- troopers from the 555th Parachute Infantry Bat- talion. Known as the Triple Nickels, Beavers and 16 other young U.S. Army soldiers volunteered and were selected as the first African-Ameri- can soldiers to complete paratrooper Sgt. Clarence H.
