HBAS'XT NORTHPORT Officers Injured Recumg Dog From Fire A pair of Suffolk police officers suffered non-life threatening imuries Friday while sav ing a dog from a house fire in East Northport. Officers Joseph Barra and Stephen Caratozzolo 28 Meadow Rue Lane home at around 145 pm , police said As they were circling the fully -engulfed house looking for victims, the of- ficers saw a dog through a rear window. They then entered the burning home. through a rear door and responded to the rescued the dog. The officers suffered smoke inhglation and were brought to Stony Brook University Hospital by East Northport Fire Department Ambulance for treat- ment, according to police. The dog, a S year-old Pomeranian mix named is expected to survive, according to police. Meanwhile, the F ast Northport Fire Department was on scene to battle the raging fire, officials said. Both floors of the home were engulfed and fire- fighters began aggrossive attach utthzing five trucks and iwo ambulances under the command of First \Gua Assistant Chief Dan Flanagan. The Greenlawn, Kings Park and Northport fire departments assisted at the scene, and Dix Hills Fire Department provided standby coverage. Around 70 firefighters and EMS per- sonnel were on the scene. A Northport firefighter suffered a shoulder injury while battling the blaze and was brought to Huntington Hospital for treatment. The Huntington Town Cyanide Re- sponse Team Paramedics also responded, and both the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire, offi- cials said. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Fourth PrecinetCrime. Section officers said the man, pictured, stole the Shark vacuum cleaner from the Kohl's at 45 Crooked Hill Road on Feb. 24 at around 3:50 p.m. The man, who had a shaved head and a full beard, fled with two other men in a gray Toyota Camry, ac- cording to police.
