COmmMACK Eased Restrictions Considered For Gurwin Proposal The Huntington Town Board is considering whether to remove a re- striction placed on a de- veloper as part of a zone change approved in July 2016. The board voted Tues- day to schedule a public hearing to discuss the move, which would re- move a restriction placed on Gurwin Senior Hous- ing by Suffolk, which has since rescinded the limitation. Gurwin is looking to build a 176-unit senior independent living com- munity with five build- ings on its Commack site, which borders its current 67-acre senior healthcare center on Hauppauge Road. Town documents show - that - Suffolk County Department of Public Works previously called for a driveway at the proposed develop- ment to align with Lau- rinda Drive on the east side of Commack Road. However, the county has since removed the re- quirement. The - 2016 - zone change, which imple- mented the restriction, and others, converted Gurwin's __ 10.5-acre property on the corner of Commack Road and Hauppauge Road from R-40 and R-20 residen- tial districts to R-HS res- idential health services district. The change - was nevessary for the pro- posed development to move forward.
