Collectively, Half Hollow Hills ac- crued 206 total points -good for sec- ond in the overall team standings. The Thundercolts were bestedonly by Ward Melville (238.5), a team they had outmatched weeks earlier at Suf- folk's championships. Individually and in the relays, Half Hollow Hills was led by several strong performances. The school also yielded among the field the most competitors in individual meets. That's a \huge accomplishment,\ said coach Nina Cunningham. Leading the charge was senior Ethan Tack stands in second on the podium for his performance in the 100-yard butterfly. The Half Hollow Hills 200-yard medley relay team of Mason Arnberg, Dylan Chan, Kabir Randhawa and Ethan Tack stand in the fourth-place slot of the podi- um at the state championships last weekend. Ethan Tack, a staple of the Thunder- colts program for the past several years. He finished second in the 100- yard butterfly with a time of 49.8 sec- onds; and third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.03. Dylan Chan, another senior and powerhouse for the Thundercolts, fin- ished fourth in the 100-yard back- stroke with a time of 51.39 seconds; and 10\ in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.86 seconds. Half Hollow Hills junior Kabir Randhawa also found success. He finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:32.81; and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.54. , The trio was also part of both the BOYS/GIRLS BASKETBALL Cougars, T-Birds Gear For L.]. Finals By Andrew Wroblewski awroblewski@longislandergroup.com Both the Cougars of Commack and Thunderbirds of Half Hollow Hills High School East are gearing up to vie for a Long Island champi- onship. Streaking Cougars eye second LL. title in three seasons First up, tonight at 7:30 p.m. the Lady Cougars will head to Suffolk Community College's Brentwood campus at 1001 Crooked Hill Road to take on Baldwin. Commack, which won Suffolk's Class AA crown Feb. 27, went on to best the county's small school champ, Hauppauge, on Sunday for the county's overall title. The Lady Cougars, who have reached at least the Suffolk Class AA finals in each of the past four seasons, are riding a 19-game win streak dat- ing back to Dec. 22, 2017. In the Long Island championship game, Commack will face a Baldwin team that's similarly on fire. The defending Long Island cham- pion Lady Bruins are undefeated this season, with 21 straight wins. Their latest win came Saturday, when they defeated Massapequa, 60-24, in the Half Hollow Hills relay teams that made the podium in their respective events. The 200-yard medley relay squad, which also consists of junior Mason Arnberg, clocked in at 1:35.26, good for third place. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, which includes senior Alex Jakubiak, also placed third with a time of 3:09.24. \I'm very happy with the results,\ Cunningham said. \I think the boys swam fantastically.\ The meet was the last in Chan's and Tack's high school careers. They've been swimming together via the Half Hallow Hills program since their mid- dle school days. Nassau Class AA final. Commack and Baldwin last met on March 5, 2016, also in the Long Island title game, which Commack won, 40-33. There will be a $7 admission fee for tonight's showdown. Red-hot Thunderbirds look to avenge last year's shortfall On Saturday it will be the Thun- derbirds' turn to try for a Long Island title. It's the team's second-straight ap- pearance in the title game; they fell last year by one point to Westbury. Hills East earned its Suffolk Class \I was a little disappointed in how I did,\ Chan said. \I felt like there were some things that couldn't be helped - like my goggles filling up, or slipping off the start. But, he continued, \Coach told me: 'Don't focus on the icing, but just the whole cake.' It was the end of my var- sity career and I'm happy with it. I'm truly blessed.\ As for Tack, he said he thought he performed well, and improved upon his showing from last year. \I had some crazy swims last year that I'm not sure I could repeat, but I definitely am better than I was last year,\ he said. Both Thundercolts plan to continue their swim careers at the collegiate level - Chan at Dartmouth, and Tack at Navy. Cunningham said the boys® leader- ship will be missed. \They are good role models,\ Cun- ningham said. \They do what they are suppose to do and are still willing to listen and learn.\ Standing in fourth place for the 100- yard backstroke is Half Hollow Hills' Dylan Chan. AA crown on Feb. 27, but went on to fall to the county's small school champ, Amityville, 77-59, in Sun- day's overall title game. The Thunderbirds, which have won 14 of their last 15 games, will look to get back on track in the Long Island championship game against Uniondale. Uniondale, meanwhile, has won 15 straight games, including a 58-46 triumph of Baldwin on Friday in Nassau's championship game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Saturday at Farmingdale State Col- lege (2350 Broadhollow Road). There will be a $7 admission fee.
