By Janee Law Jlaw@longislandergroup.com The Huntington Town Board is ex- ploring whether it should purchase a 2.175-actre addition for John Coltrane Park in Dix Hills. The proposal was recommended by the town's Environmental Open Space . and Park Fund Review Advisory com- mittee, which has wanted to expand John Coltrane Park for a number of years, said town spokesman A.J. Carter. The park on Candlewood Path is the site of the Coltrane Home, where legendary jazz musician John Coltrane once lived and composed several songs, including \A Love Supreme.\ The home, which was saved from demolition in 2004, now serves as a museum that preserves the musical legacies of both Coltrane and his wife, Alice. . The park, as it currently stands, was acquired by the town in 2005. The town later deeded the Coltrane Home «sere «essa 000020 00000 00s 0%» 0s +0 » ; Ice cream shop In Northport Viage ; www.rockinghorseicetreatery.com ; 631-651-5610 : 112 Main St, Northport, NY O'OOOll‘QIOQCQOQDQGOODOQGOfiiQOOIQ’OQOQIQIQOOQUQQQQQQOOGOODOIOIOUIOQOOO‘CQQOO'O Q'DOQOCQQOQQOOlOJCG...UQ...~.'.OQOOOQOO0OO00.C‘OQOQQQQQODDOOCDOQIOQOQ0.00.0... over to Friends of the Coltrane Home, a nonprofit. Owners of the property south of the park at 255 Candlewood Path are con- sidering selling the land to the town. Ron Stein, president of the board of directors of the Friends of the Coltrane Home, which maintains the home, said the acquisition would \\help preserve the historical context of the Coltrane home itself.\ \When the Coltranes lived in that house back in the 1960s and early 1970s, there was a lot of open space. The acquisition of the additional par- cel would help recreate some of the experience,\ Stein added. A resolution sponsored by Coun- cilwoman Susan Berland at the July town board meeting scheduled a pub- lic hearing on the proposal for Aug. 15, 2 p.m. at town hall. \This is the first step,\ Carter said. The next step, if the proposal moves forward, he added, \would be getting an appraisal.\ ©'1.00 OFF ANY CONE With this coupon OOIIOJO‘OOC’QCOICOCOOODQOI‘I'OOOOIOCOQOA...Q‘ODOO...
