Toaz Junior High School under the sponsorship of the Huntington Community Concert Association. The members of this able- . . and versatile group- were tenor ' s John Campbell and Carl . Honmlt , - bari- tone Roger ' White and . .. bdss , Edmond Karlsmd. Charles -Touch* ette , their talented pianist-arranger , was an indispensable , ' non-singing member. That these fl ve men could have achieved ' such perfect rapport in the-performance of thelt selec- tions ' attested to their seven , years ' experience on the concert stage. . Tho . two opening groups of the program consisted of seven works from the Nineteenth Century. As a, whole , these numbers , which in- cluded works by Beethoven , Schu- bert , Brahams , Wolf , Chopin and Rossini were effectively perform- ed and showed a definite under- standing of each composers ' indi-; vldual wants. Warming-up on Beethoven unfortunately proved to bo too much of a challenge. How- ever , sensitive performance of Brahm ' \Die Malnacht\ ( sung In German) and Schubert' s lyrical \Impatience \ (which should have been sung In German) prepared the audience for the artists obvious piece de resistance , tho \Largo al factotum \ from Rossini' s opera ' , 'Barber of Seville \ . 'Mr. ToucU- ette ' s excolleat four-part arranger ment of this popular solo aria , was well sung with proper bravura much to the obvious enjoyment ot the audience. An effective a cappolla rendition of Brahms ' ''Marching Song\ -was sung-as . an encore. . ¦ ' . ' . ' * • ' ' Part III v of the program consisted of a medley of songs from Sigmund Romberg ' s well-loved operetta , i'S ' tudent Prince ' . \ Cleverly 'arrarig- ed , and sung with careful attention to details of dynamics and diction. Romberg ' s . beautiful melodies, particularly \Deep In My Heart\ and \Serenade , \ were In very cap- able hands. ' ' ( . . . After Intermission , - the bass of the quartet , iMr./Kar!sru.J , gave a fine sounding though somewhat iihdramatlc presentation of the aria \II lacerato splrlto \ from \Simon Boccanegra \ by. Verdi. Hln stentorian low G , brought a mur- mur of admiration from tho audi- ence. . ' . ,, - ' •¦ ¦ . The balance of tho concert was piade lip of seven American fol k songs and . spirltuala , with . Mr, Totichottci' s arrangements- giving each- man a chance to display his Own solo virtuosity. - This reviewer febls , however , that these num- bers would have been enhanced had most of them been .sung a cappella. The subtle nuances and precision upon which this music thrives was evident throughout , with the artists at their best when hot straining for volume. The fre- quent laughter from the audience attested to tho excellent diction ot the singers. The songs were all particularly well sung and Included \In \ Good Old Colony - Times \ , \Black Is tho Color ot My True Love ' s Hair \ , \Old Joe Clark*' , \Gwlno to HobbV ' , and \Sometimes I feel Like A Motherless Child\ , Two modern spirituals , \Parsing Space \ by IL Schmortz . and) \My Soul' ii Gonna HI BO again \ by Mr. Touchetto wore outstandingly ef- fective.
