New Station for North port— Seven Electric Frei g ht Loco- motives Ordered. Long Island Railroad Improvements Included in the company ' s budget for 192G, reach a total outlay of approxi- mately $11 , 000 , 000. Among the major projects under way or to be started soon , are the following: • Work has been commenced on the extension of tho electrified system from Floral Park to Mlneola , on the Main Line , and from Mincola to Valley Stream on the New York Bay Extension, - or West Hempstead Branch . The estimated cost of this project is about $300 , 000. Weather permitting, the newly electrified lino shoul d be completed In time for the inauguration ot electric train service when the winter schedule goes Into effect ' in October. This Involves in- stallation of approximately fourteen miles of 150 pound third rail , and changes in the existing track. Preparations are being made to double track the Long Beacli Branch from East Rockaway to Wreck Lead , It is estimated this will cost about $3-10.000. Plans, are also in the course of pre- paration for the installation of a sec- ond track on the Mohtauk Division from SayviUe to a point east of Pat- chogue , fn addition to the construc- tion of a storage yard and. an engine terminal. It is estimated this work will cost more than $500 , 000. It Is proposed to erect two new passenger stations this year , one at Northport and the other at West Hempstead. . . . To comply with an order of the Public Service Commission , the 'Rail- road Company plan s to eliminate the grade crossing-at Matti tuck , - on the Main Line.
