William W. Donaldson. . In Ihe death of Postmaster William \V. Just before Easter , he suf- fered a chill and when his son , Dr. Blake F. His condition was such , however, that he continued to . fail until his death on Tuesday morning. : -He was a native of Hauppauge , where he was born on November 2, 3859 , and was the son of Wallace and Frances Donaldson, and his educa- tion was secured from the school in that village. The best man war Frank Shea, of Brooklyn. The wed- ding march was plaved by Organist Everitt Miller. Miss Harvey was gowned in Copen- hagen blue silk with hat to-match , anc \ carried a bouquet of roses and carna- tions. Miss Spurgeon wore a blue end fawn crepe de chene dress. Following the ceremony a weddint breakfast was enjoyed at the famoui Samtnis home on- Lloyd' s . According to an announcement made by D. Sherwood Tutbill , presi- dent of the North Shore Master Plum- bers Association , the strike pf plum- bers and steam fitters which has been in effect in Suffolk County since April 1 , has been settled. - By the terms of the settlement , the men are to-receive ?10 per;day, In: stead of the scale of $9 which had been in force. The members of the union which takes in all Suffolk County, went on strike for ?12 per day or an increase , of 33 1-3 per cent. The increase granted amounts to about 12 per cent. The following-letter has been re- ceived , from Pierre Olsen , local mas- ter plumber , and is self explanatory : To the Editor of The Long-Islander: DEAR - SIR:—Will you kindly allow me space in your valuable and excel: lent paper , in order to try and meet a wrong ' impression which has no doubt been created through a state- ment which recently appeared in the Brooklyn Daily Times. In the above mentioned paper , it stated that I had agreed to the union plumbers ' demand which was for $12 per day and subsequently my men were . not on. strike. . , • - . - That is in error. : Although the men at first demanded $12 per day, it was later withdrawn to $11 per day, which I agreed to pay, and my reasons for so doing will , I believe , bear mp out. My business has been , and is , very brisk , among my contracts being the Huntington Station Bank, Shapiro ' s building and others , which 1 promised to complete on a given date. Now , every day lost in this particular busi- ness is gone, so in order to keep my promises with those we serve , I was willing- to ' lose the extra money : and pay my - men , feeling certain that it would be only 'for n short while , after which time things would adjust them- selves to evcryopelB satisfaction. May I add in conclusion, a word about my men. They are all residents of Huntington , steady, reliable and honeat- They give me their best en- deavor at all times , which Is benefi- cial to my customers also, so in fair- ness to them, I oiler this explanation as it evidently seemed they welro most to blame. - It might' be well to mention at thin .time that the plumber has been the poorest- paid mechanic In tlii . ' building trades around 'Hunt- ington , for tho past, five years , and whon tliey. askod for an Increase it was only with doslro ¦ to receive as much as-the othor niechanlcn.
