BETTER TELEGRAPH SERVICE SECURED The entering wedge for hotter ser- vice for Huntiiigtonlans to bo given bv the Western Union Telegraph 'Com- pany has been star/pi hy the Hunting- ton Chamber of Commerce , and in- formation Just received at the office of the Chamber on Now York avenue , is particularly pleasing. It is a notice that hereafter the residents of Hunt- ington , will be able to send telegraphic messages from 6 lo 9 P. M. through Co ' .i Spring Jlarbcxr 810 ('telephon e) without liny additional charge anil that after I) P. M. messages should bo sent lis usual -through Hempstead 8. * Due to these complaints that have licfii received by the 'Chamber , the Telegraph Company lias heen com- municated with , and every effort will lie made for further Improvement to ihe service here. The letter sent to tlie company by (he Chamber secretary, In part , is as follows: ¦'The locati on of your keys in the • lobby ot the local hotel preclude any Kicssible privacy in receiving and ' transmitting telegrams; there is no messenger service provided; all wires are received by phone and transmitted in tho same manner, . Consequently the yrlvatc buslnnss of local users becomes im- mediately public matter to anyone ' sit- ting in 'tlie lohby of the hotel. •'While we see no objection to the transmitting -of telegrams . by phone , there scorns to be no provision made for confirmation , unless the Individual calls at your office. This wo feel , nnoivM he corrected , since your rates are surely founded upon tho delivery of messages. \Another regrettable fact 'is that, your office closes at six o ' clock , malt- ing it necessary for users paying addi- tional phone toll to transmit messages after that hour and impossible to re- ceive messages before nine o ' clock in tho morning.
