HANNING- C G 3 \ 4“; Ferm E _ *w + V HOULD a 32-foot Banfield sea skiff skim by your boat one of these week-ends, going like the proverbial bat out of Hell, that will be the Kem, late of Port Washington in., and now of the South Shore Yacht club. You probably won't get a chance to look the crew over, for the Kem will be hightailing it down the creek by the time you get around that, so we'll tell you that it will most likely be Commodore Tom \Two Wheels\ McLaren at the controls, with Mate Sherry \Schenley\ Kissell and Navigator Eddie \Pride of the Power Squadron\ Egge kibitzing on the bri beside him. With that crew of Baldwin buccaneers, anything can happen and prob- ably will. (Short Beach coast guard station, kindly take note. The Kem is ready for the season, now, after & thor- ough going over in the shops of Mike Scopinich's Free- port Point shipyard. Mike has pronounced her fit and ready to go, but he has his fingers crossed.. He thinks the 200 horse Scripps in her is a bit too heavy for her size. However, the boys have promised him not to run her wide open at her top speed of 28 miles per. Speaking of Mike, we were down to his yard the other day and spent an enjoyable hour climbing in and out of the great assortment of craft he has there. You can get anything, from a ° broken down dory to a 50 foot yacht. And if Mike hasn't got just the boat you want on hand, he'll gladly build one to your specifica- tions-for a modest consideration, of course. We had our eye on a dandy looking little 22 foot, half cabin skiff, but Mike and us couldn't see eye to eye on the price. 'We made him our standard offer of $1.98 and, believe it or not, he turned us down cold. \ \Leave out the dot and you can sail it away,\ he said. \Is 'dot\ so?\ we asked and the deal was off. But even at $198, the boat is a darned good buy for some one who wants an economical craft to kick around the bay. Review-Star Photographer Captain Mel finally pulled into Freeport with the Julieanna and with Captain Bill Bradley, the power squadron sage as a passenger, after a comedy of errors for which neither skipper was to blame. It seems that after Captain Mel left Florida, Bill sent word down to Norfolk, Va. that he would meet him there and come up the rest of the way with him.
