We claim that the effect of oplnm on the system is against all natorai laws, and the witnesses to results, both by patient and physician, if they wHl speak their mind’, will justify the remark. In the n » of opium (whose introduction iscentnries inside of that of Cannkhis) nearly the en|ire product is used for other than medicine. Let any person visit a hos pital or sick roonf, and witness the state of patients under what is called deep with the use of opium, or preparations of opium, and they will see that i t is merely negative. It is nothing more or less than a torpid stupefaction, and of such nature that all dis ease is aggravated rather than cured, and the patient awakes from an unnatural rest, in a worse t ____ without the opium. Opium is also a violent const!- pator, producing indigestion and derangement of the bowels, like all unnatnral stimulants. The active principle of the Anodyne not only produces the most quiet, natural, and refreshing rest, but allows nature under that actual state to come in and do her portion of the work, by giying what real sleep and real rest are intended for. It Is also a cathartic In effect, andi does not disturb the natural action of the bowels. Therefore wberever.or for whatever opium was e veruied, let the Anodyne take ite place, and our deolaiations will in all cases bo assented to by fairtrial. Its present proprietary form is its protec tion, and let the proprietors be sustained by the ac ceptance of physician and patients, and much suff erin'g will be prevented.
