We heart ily concur with it , and bope that tbe suggestion s to- gether with i hose submitted by the Sig- nal on tbis matter some weeks ago will be acted ou by the Town Board at tbeir next meet i ng: E DITOR S IONAL —Perhaps you don 't know tbat tbe people at Oak Island re- po t t tbat the tide is running lower tbis season than ever before , owing to tbe inlet and , instead of tbere bein g; a high tide when we bave a north or east wind , i t simply drives out through the inlet and makes it lower than before. I tbink tbat the matter should be pushed vigor- ously b y everyone interested in tbe wel- fare of tbe town and tbey should try and get tbe Town Board to make some prov ision for tbis , if possible , before the season commenc es , aud shonld i m - prove tbe channel in some way eo as not to hamper t bis place. I don ' t believe that a very large proportion of the Bab ylon people realize the immense im- portance of tbis place , as aside from the large amount of work furnished each year to local mechanic s , t be trade from tbe cotta ge owners on Oak Island each summer goes toward making up a large proportion of Babylon ' s business. W HILE driving into town earl y tbis Friday morning , from their homes in the suburbs , Henry Weils , the grocer and Edward Miller , the merchant tailor . were tossed out of their trap—a top buggy—and bo th were badly shaken up and sli g htly injured. The accident oc- curred at the De er Park avenue cross- ing , the horse , a s pi rited animal , be- coming fr ighteued at tbe noise of a fre ight train that was passing. Mr. Wells escaped witb a bru ise on his fore- head and chest , but Mr. Miller was more se riousl y Injured. His face was very badly lacerated aud fifteen stitches , it is said , had to be taken in or der to sew o p the wounds. He also suffered greatl y from loss of blood. He was removed to his home nnd will b e under tbe care of a physician for a few days at least. The wa gon was partially wr ecked and the horse was not caught uu til after it bad run some distance. Cons idering that the top of the vehicle was raised , the fact tbat both occupants e scaped with no bones beiug broken is miraculous. A basket containing about fifteen dozen eggs , which was being taken to market , were found among tbe debris in a demoralized condition. The lifel ess remains of Walter Tuthill , a well known resident of this village , were found in front of the Covell pl ace on Clinton avenue early this Friday morning . A bullet wound through bis head and a revolver , which bad appar- entl y fallen from bis lifeless band , gave ampl e proof that death was dne to self destruction. Tuthill was 30 years of age , a carpenter by trade , and lor many years past bad served as foreman for Jabez E. Van Orden , tbe Great River contract or. He was unmarried and so far as is known bad no cares or troubles. While ot a convivial natu ie he was tem- perate in bi s habits and at this writing no thing could be learned that would throw an y light on tbe act.
