THE EAST HAMPTON STAR, THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 3. 1938 SEVEN A new screen team will be in troduced at the Edwards Theatre on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 3, 4, 5. The new team is that of Wallace Beery and Mickey Rooney, who are co-starred “Stablemates.” Beery is seen in the role of a once brilliant veterinarian who changed to a race track bum because he was framed into a mur der charge. Rooney, fresh from his triumph in \Boy’s Town,” will \ more admirers, if possible, in his characterization of the stable boy and jockey who befriends Berry in order to get the latter to operate on his injured horse. The two join forces and tour the country with the race horse, which Rooney has been given in lieu of his salary. When the horse is in perfect con dition, they start for Hollywood Park to participate in the big race. One day Rooney listens to a radio broadcast and learns that his travel ing companion is an escaped convict. Having learned to love Beery like a father, he tries to persuade him not to come to the track without letting him know the reasdn. Harry Rapf, the producer, made excellent use of the new Hollywood track at Inglewood as well as featur ing five champions of the turf in Seabiscuit, Dauber, Specify, Indian Broom, and Lloyd Pan. The work of the stars is brilliant and is ably supported by the per formances of Arthur Hohl, Margaret Hamilton, and Marjorie Gateson. Sam Wood, as usual, gives the pic ture a race track tempo with his direction. Not only does the film show Hol lywood Park, but gives sport fans a chance to see Santa Anita, home o f the $100,000 handicap, Bing Crosby’s Del Mar Track, and San Francisco’s Tanforan. Co-starred for the first time in their spectacular careers, Errol Flynn and Bette Davis come to the Edwards Theatre on Sunday, Mon day, and Tuesday, November 6, 7, 8, in “The Sisters,” adapted from the glorious love story by Myron Brinig which has been one of the best sell ing novels of recent years. Besides the brilliant star team, the cast includes a list of players that reads like a “Who’s Who In Hollywood”— Anita Louise, Jane Bryan, Ian Hunter, Donald Crisp, Beulah Bondi, Henry Travers, Alan Hale, Dick Foran, Patric Knowles, Lee Patrick, Laura Hope Crews, Harry Davenport, and many others. The story opens in the early nine teen hundreds, on the eve of Teddy Roosevelt’s election. The many readers of the novel will remember that the story is concerned with the fortunes of three beautiful sisters who start their lives in a small Mon tana mining town, with most of the interest centered on the loudest sis ter, played by Miss Davis, who mar ries a wandering newspaper man Mickey Rooney and Wallace Beery, a grand team, will come to the Edwards Theatre Thursday to Saturday, November 3, 4, 5, in their latest picture, \Stablemates.\ (the role taken by Errol Flynn) and goes with him to San Francisco, where her life is a struggle for love and happiness against overwhelming odds. On Wednesday and Thursday we offer you a special treat, that is those of you who have steady nerves and a strong heart. This show with out question is the super thriller of all time. Shown at the Edwards Wed nesday and Thursday, November 9-10. “ Bob” Dominy Plays On Carnegie Tech Team When our local football fans used to watch Robert “Bob” Dominy play on our local high school team it was often said that some day he would play on a big team, well, the time has come when that same thing has happened. “Bob” played in the posi tion of guard on the Carnegie Tech team in the game against Davis-El- kins and again on the team which played Notre Dame at South Bend last Saturday. “ Bob” now weighs 180 pounds and according to the Pittsburg pa per “has come along so fast that he is ready to gain promotion to the regular squad. LEARN ABOUT FLORIDA The Florida exhibit at the New York World’s Fair 1939 is to occupy an area of two and a half acres on the west shore of Fountain Lake, near its head, and is expected to spend a minimum of $250,000 on its elaborate presentation. Its chief dis play is to be of its citrus industry, showin gthe growing, picking and packing of its fruit crops. Other phases of its exhibit are to include its phosphate mines, its abundant animal life and its resources as va- cation-land.
