Letter From a Farmer. ; Masses. Eprrons : t I have observed in several of your late issues a warm advocacy of the pox-mane locntxgn of the State Fair in Elmira, its vicinity, and caraost appeals to vo to endorse by their ballots the scheme. This whole business affects farmers mofe than any other class of citizens, Inasmuch as theso are conducted exclusively in their interests, If there is profits to be reaped by nny other interests it is incidental and of course legitimate, but after all the main good is to our agricyl- ture. The questions for us to decide Is, will the benfits justify the cost? If I am to decide this l? the light of my individ- ual expulsion should say yes, becauke Iam sure that the Fairs heretofore held in our town baggie efimd mo in the of cartain ne Is and somes valp- ablp soeds, more than my taxes would He to «rcure this permanent locations, I may | «dd that my tax will bo at loast an aver- age ol thoso who till hundred acre fargja, But I bave not trusted my own judgment without, fortifying by. the opinionsof others. I havo consulted soveral ve successful farmers, mostly in the town Big Flats, mon who don't pry much : fun, but who work with a will for every enterprise that promises sure profits, and tbqy all endorse the project. Itis a fair ument of the msiter to say tha gleam bring us good commonsurale mtfh their cost it is wonderful that the L shortcoming has not been discovered in mare than thirty years during which they hayo been hold and during which time they have constantly been worming (in popularity saad im cash profits. n the second day of the last exhbifi- tion in Elmirs, twenty-five thousshd pessoos visited the grounds, and of this pumber, within the narrow circle of my acquaintance, there were several who, by pukohase of seeds and irp lements, resp- ed {profits amounting to hendreds of doi. and of course could not know of more than the merest fraction of the transnctions. Now It seems to mo: the advantages will bo vastly ingreased when thero Fairs are hold at regular intervals, so that we may make definite calculations abgdut tinie, and settle in our minds what par- ticular improvements to seek. If apy oats hava deteriorated and. shortaned in the yield,I can reasonably expect that the newest and best kinds will be sho amt the Fairs, and I can have the advantage {wt-zonal inspection: before buying, as l an a good variety from which to ig» lect t0 please my particular fancy,.
