There has been a partial resum p tion of the anthracite coal trade th e past week, w ith a reasonable assurance th a t all the 1 coal regions will be in full operation w ithin a week or two, and t h a t the supply will be fall to th e end of th e season. In th e Schuylkill region a m a jority of th e opera tors have arranged w ith th e ir m en a t nearly the same rate of wages t h a t prevailed a t the tim e of th e suspension, opening on th e basis of three dollars average price of different sizes, except pea. A t this rate the price* w o u l d r a n g e fro m a b o u t $ 2 .50 f o r c h e s t n u t op to $3 50 for stove. These a re about the rates t h a t prevailed for coal before the sus pension. In the Lehigh and Sham o kin re gions there is a difficulty on the m a tter of “ basis,” and also on th e r ig h t claimed by the association to control the hands at the collieries. These m a tters, it is l>e]ieved, will be adjusted, as th e settlem e n t at each additional colliery lessens the difficulties of settlem e n t w ith th e m en a t those rem aining out. In t h e W ilkesbarre and Lackaw a n n a regions th e individual o p e rators, and those companies w ithout transporting privileges, have commenced or are getting ready to go to w o rk. The R e a d ing R a ilroad reports a tonnage for th e week of 21,627 tons against 69,169 in corresponding week last year. T h e entire tonnage of a ll t h e regions for th e week was b u t 102,460 tons, against 347,089 tons in same week last year, a de crease af 244,629 tons. W h e n the susDen- sion commenced th e surplus of coal to the same tim e in 1868 was 712,732 tons. The entire production now is 5,013,974 tons. 357,594 tons less than to th a arroe tim e last year, m aking an actual decrease of | 1,070,326 tons. This m ay soon be m ade up if all the mines go into full work. There has been some l ittle advance in prices, b u t not much, and they w ill, i t is believed, in a fortnight settle dow n a t figures a t which there w ill be no r is k in buying, as, under th e “ basis” a d o p ted, prices c a n n o t go lower w ithout a n o ther stoppage, and th e carrying companies will a d v ance th e ir rates a s usual as the the season advances.
