It is said stea.m was put on withollt his signal, ana he fell be~ neath the train. His left leg was run over and terribly crushed and · tho1.1gh he was removed to Attica as sooil as possible for medical aid, he did not recover from the shock. What came near being a horrible accident occurred near Lock purt Saturday. A wheel on l.he tender of the engine drawing the 7:40 train from Suspension B1idg;e east was discovered to be broken when the tra~n passed the junction two miles west of Lockport. Notlling hap- pened until the locomotive came to 1Vithin about 20 rodsa.fthe loug l>ridge which spans th-e canal in Lock port. Here the Ie~r trucks of the tender left the track and were dragged over the ties. To those 11ot fa.m.iliar with this b>ridge it is enough to say that ic is 501t0 feet long and fully 100 feet above the canal level. Had it not been for the guard rail, wh:ch kept the tender in position., some part of the train would bave been plullged into the abyss below.
