COTTON MARKET IS EASY AT CLOSING Final Quotations Show Dcclino ' t GO to 95 Toints Not for Session. LIYEKrOOL PRICES DROP Southern Selling1 Persists and Rallies Ai'o Unablo to Provont Losses. The cotton myltet went lower yester- day, with a renewal o local liquidation end foreign selling, although there wero many periods of stcadlncos throughout the session. On the whole, It was purely n, professional, trading affair, with Inter- est of operators centred mainly on the money market, Washington political r.ew, and, perhaps, the Bureau of Census pinning report, which was hardly a factor, as It was very nearly up to gen- eral expectations. Tho weather map ihowed cloudiness but no molsturo of Importance. Liverpool cables wero rather easy, that market opening some- what worse than duo and continuing lower during tho remainder of tho- busi- ness. There was considerably less In the English spot centre, aalcs dropping off to 6,000. Tho Census Bureau estimates tho amount of cotton ginned prior to Novem- ber 14 at 7.577.S26 running bales, count- ing round as half nnd excluding llnters. For tho same tlmo last year the giiirilng was 8.706,40 bales nnd In 1917 5,571, 113. The number of Sea Island bales Included this year Is 4,226. against 20.845 in WIS, whllo American Egyptian cablc amounted to 17,007. The corrected sta- tistics of tho quantity of cotton ginned prior to Jfovembor 1 show 0,312,301 bales. At tho opening hero the market was fteady, net unchanged to 25 points lower. Prices went somewhat higher after the rail, but tho market soon sagged, as Southern and Wall Street pressuro In- creased In volume. Fluctuations there- after wero very erratic and tho price i.m;e was wide, most of tho speculative ciowd taking a purely trading position. During the later forenoon there was a substantial rally, principally on tho strength In securities and the easier money market. The Improvement In sterling and francs was also n bullish factor. The unsettling strlko advices, however, were' again the cause of not a little uneasiness among moro timid traders. When the market had rallied mors than CO points from the lowest nnd gono sharply over the provlous final bids moro cotton from various sources was brought out, and, aB offerings Increased, local buyers drew off. The general tone was vciy nervous In the afternoon, but still mother rally was tho order, with busi- ness very mixed In character. Southern relllng, however, was persistent, and In the last hour there was another swing as prices declined sharply frpm the best, all options going approximately to the day's worst. Feeling war badly mixed, and the final market was easy at a net decline of 60 to 05 points, P.aajc of prices Thurs- day, Open. nigh. Low. Close. jrcTcmber. . ,. 38.6) Jifcensber..
