8 THE EVENING' WORLD, F R I DAY,, D E 0 EM BEE1 li;022. 12 AVENUE MAY BE RELOCATED 1 BIG HUDSON PIERS V Hylan Regime May Carry re Out Protect Once Advo- - cateci by Mitchcl. Tlio rclocntlon nnd widening of 12th Arcnue, which was originally pro- posed by the Mitchcl Administration as part of tho since abandoned rlvtfr front railroad plan, Is scheduled for consummation by Mayor Hylan's Ad- ministration as neces.ary for tho con- struction of big piers. A resolution approving the maps will como before tho Board of Estlmato at tho Dec. 8 meeting. As proposed on July 23, 1916, the plan culled for the acquisition of pri- vate property on the cast side of 12th Avenue from 42d to Cist Streets, and extending 12th Avenue on a curved I'.Zi eastward, thereby affording room on the water lino for tho building of large piers. ' Tho 42d Street and Grand Street Kerry Hallway Company, which owns a car barn on the cast eldo of 12th Avenue extending from 42d to 43d Streets, objected, however, to con- demnation of its property, advancing the ground that It was used for a public purpose, nnd therefore was not subject to condemnation proceedings. The courts sustained Its stand. Tho city authorities have obviated the dllllculty by preparing a imap ex- tending 12th Avenue from 43d to 01st Btrocts. The proceedings for acquir- ing title to tho new 12th Avenue pro- ject deal with the condemnation nnd acquisition of 169,700 squnre feet of land, upon which fourteen buildings encroach. The Dock Department plans to build two more piers, titch 1.000 feet lonjr nnd 150 feet wide, and with slips each 860, feet wide. The wholo undertak- ing will cost several million dollars. After tho map Is npproved tho city will proceed to condemn tho property needed. (XiSIIMSTITIOX. (from the Washington Blur.) \What Is your objection to Jmz music? nsked I no campaign mnnngcr.
