The Octobcr meeting of The Lynbrook Democratic Club enabled all who attended, the opportunity to meet, listen to and question many of the candidates run- ning for local office. Guests at the meeting wree members of the Valley Stream, Rockville Centre and Baldwin Democrtic Clubs. The next scheduled event hosted by The Lynbrook Democratic Club is the 5th Annual Holiday Auction, featuring \Antiques\ and \Newtiques\. The date is Sunday, November I5th from I pm-4pm at the Amer- ican Legion Hall, Union Avenue, Lynbrook. All are welcome, refreshments available. Christ Church Christ Church Confirmation The Right Reverend Cha- rles L. Brugreen, The Suf- fragan Bishop for the Armed Forces, was at Christ Episcopal Church, Lyn- brook, on Sunday October 25th to administer the Sac- rament of Confirmation to Adrew Bellenkes, Jamie Miller, Steven Nesbitt, Jon- athan A. Rehm, Jr. and Andrew Wolke. Marie A. Duffy and John Solberg were received into the Church. Bishop Burgreen, on behalf of Bishop's Cross for Distinguished Parochial Service in the Diocese of Long Island to Mr. Edward Polese. Mr. Polose has been a member of Christ Church since 1945 and worked tire- lessly for the Church and the Diocese serving for many years as Chairman of Epis- copal Charities. He served on the Church Vestry for 18 years and has served as usher, lay reader and Every Member Canvas Chairman for many years. It was an honor not bes- towed on many. Rabbi Saperstein will dis- cuss \Through the Decades and Around the World,\ significant personal expe- riences in a lifetime of ser- vice. Good Government Award East Rockaway Village Clerk-Treasurer, Phyllis J. Rand has been notified by the Nassau Citizens Budget Committee Inc. that the Vil- lage is being honored with their \Good Government Award\ lor its capital plan- ning procedures. Mrs. Rand and Mayor Irving F. Shaw will receive the award at a presentation to be made at the Milleridge Inn on November 20, 1987. The citation is in recogni- tion of the responsible man- agement of capital assets arid sound operating budget procedures of the Village. The Mayor noted that \The Good Government Award is gratifying as a recognition of the combined efforts of the Board of Trus- tees, the Village Clerk- Treasurer and her staff, and the various Department heads to stress fiscal respon- sibility and economy while providing a complete array of services for Village residents\. St. John's Church by Irma Kaempf On Monday, November 9th the third in a series of six New Member Classes meet at 8PM. The topic of discus- sion at this midpoint will be \Growth as Christians\. The classes run until 9:30PM and new members will be received into the church on Sunday, December 6th when the Sacrament of Holy Communion will be offered. The last Class, November 30th, will be preceded by a Potluck Supper celebrating completion of the course. Again, Thanksgiving at St. John's will be a time for sharing the abundance of our harvests. In line with that, the Horn of Plenty will again be set in the chancel on November 8th, remaining in place until after Thanksgiv- ing Eve Service on Wednes- day, November 25th at 8PM. Although St. John's collects food for the needy on a year-round basis, this special drive is also made each Thanksgiving. Food items gathered each week will be placed in the Horn of Plenty ultimately to be taken to the L.l. Council of Churches Emergency Food Center in Rockville Centre. POLICE BLOHER mS -1983 by Mildred Roemer A limited supply of the Grist Mill Museum's 300th anniversary plates are now on sale at the Village Hall. They are $15 a plate, are white ceramic with blue pattern and gold rim. The legend of the two ships is printed on the back of the plate. 1988 seemed so far away when plans were first being made for the anniversary this June. However, there may be a \kick off for the celebration on April 16, as the Alumni Association and interested members of the community will be asked to take part on a history of East Rockaway based on a paga- ent presented by the Rhame Avenue School P.T.A. that was also presented at the 1939 World's Fair. Mrs. Dennis Murray, Don Mur- ray's mother, wrote and directed that version. Ed Power of the association is working on the script for the 1988 production. Don, who was in the 6th grade at Rhame at the time played the part of a Pilgrim boy. Sgt. Charles Lisa of the 4th Squad reports the details of an attempted murder that occurred in East Rockaway at 3:00am on the morning of November I, 1987. Christopher J. Rosino 18, of 48 Washington Avenue, Lynbrook and Miguel Gon- zales 19, of 2210 Brook- haven Avenue, Far Rocka- way were at a Halloween party at 123A Williamson Avenue, East Rockaway, when they were involved in a confrontation with one another. The altercation spilled outside were Rosino allegedly took a tire iron and began striking a station wagon belonging to Gon- zales. it was at this time that Gonzales allegedly took a 25 cal. automatic from his car and fired 3 to 5 shots, hitting Rosino once in the chest and right thigh. Rosino was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside where he was admitted in stable condition. Gonzales was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
