News From •PH:. '' /ftf^. Assemblyman Greg Becker Old Westbury Gardens Offers \Post-Season Autumn Walks\ »t Becker Introduces Resolution To Remove Indicted Officials Assemblyman Gregory R. Becker (R—C, Lynbrook) today announced that he has formally introduced an Assembly Resolution that would require state legislators who are indicted to forfeit their leadership and committee positions. \In order to protect the integrity of the state Legislature, 1 have proposed a concurrent resolution of the state Senate and Assembly that calls for the temporary forfeiture of leadership and committee positions for state legislators who are indicted,\ said Rprker The assemblyman explained that the forfeited posts would then be provided to the next member inline with the most seniority until a verdict is determined. \Should the allegations be dismissed, the legislator would then resume the leadership position,\ said Becker. The lawmaker explained that recent indictments within the New York state Legislature prompted him to introduce this resolution that would clariiy appropriate- behavior for members of state Assembly or Senate. Becker noted that on the federal level, members of Congress and the U.S. Senate must vacate their committee and conference posts if they are indicted. \If adopted, my joint legislative resolution would require both the state Senate and Assembly to amend their rules so that similar to federal regulations, a member would forfeit their leadership positions and committee positions upon indictment,\ said Becker.
