LEGAL NOTICE LEGAL NOTICE Safety Program With the rise of alarmmg statistics involving youngs- ters in pedestrian accidents, and fatalities, great concern was brought to our county government by many parent and educator groups. To evoke child awareness our county government con- structed an educational focility at Eisenhower Park devoted to the pedestrian safety education of Nassau County children and so, \Safety Town\ became a reality. Within the academic framework or our curricula, formal instruction in pedes- trian safely is taught on all levels. An emphasis is placed in our primary grades and each year our third grade class ventures to Safety Town for a half day of instruction. At Safety Town, the children review safety rules in a classroom situation and then proceed to battery energy cars which they must drive through a simulated course of many different traffic patterns. Each year our school dis- trict invites a representative from Safety Town t o present an assembly to our children in grades K through 3. At our March 16th assembly, Mrs. D'Arco, Director of Safety Town, presented a 45 minute pro- gram of film and discussion on pedestrian safety. Mrs. D'Arco emphasized the need to be ever cautious of all moving vehicles and their drivers' ability or inability t o stop in an emergency. She re-emphasized the distance necessary for a traveling vehicle to stop safely a t var- ious speeds.
